The Rens have opted to come to Morocco to try to take advantage of one of the weakest Grade 1s in the calendar, even though it's not the best preparation for Roehampton/Wimbledon.
Boys R1 (L64)
Kamil Khalil (LIB) v (Q) James Hignett (GBR)
Girls R1 (L64)
(8) Jessica Ren (GBR) Bye (4) Jennifer Ren (GBR) Bye
James got his first win at this level by an emphatic margin, but that didn't stop the two from teaming up to win a round of doubles.
Boys R1 (L64)
(Q) James Hignett (GBR) d. Kamil Khalil (LIB) 6-2 6-0
R2
(10) Karim Hossam (EGY) v (Q) James Hignett (GBR)
Girls R1 (L64)
(8) Jessica Ren (GBR) Bye (4) Jennifer Ren (GBR) Bye
R2
Nicole Hoynaski (AUS) v (8) Jessica Ren (GBR) Yana Sizikova (RUS) v (4) Jennifer Ren (GBR)
Jess will try to emulate Jen's comfortable win over the Australian earlier in the year. Only Jen is in the doubles - possibly because Jess is less likely to reach the semis (scheduled to meet the top seed in the quarters, who has won all 3 tournaments in Morocco) and doesn't want to miss out on Roehampton (all first round main draw matches there are scheduled for Sunday) because of doubles.
I know I'm being a bit lazy about this using this thread but the GB juniors are taking on the US juniors in the Maureen Connolly Cup over the next couple of days. Interesting Wimby prep for a certain Miss Robson.
btw results for this are on the website are somewhat confusing, it has we won all the singles altough it says dean lost, but the score is in her favour. and i dont know what to make of the doubles
From what I can glean from the results using my nonexpert eye. Player of the day looks to be Lucy Brown winning her singles easily and nearly winning her doubles with the weakest link Ellie Dean. Thus backing up the good impression given earlier in the week during Wimby qualies. Tara Moore also very good in beating Stephens. Tara played very well at the Junior Fed Cup a couple of years ago so clearly enjoys team competitions. Laura just doing enough in both singles/doubles, hopefully reserving her best tennis for Wimby next week. Ellie Dean struggled a little in singles but would appear to have picked her game up for a narrow defeat in doubles. They should win it from here unless something weird happens tomorrow.
I was looking at the history of the tournament and all of our current top 10 have played it in the past bar Georgie Gent.
I'd say Tara's win was the most impressive although Lucy's is not to be sniffed at either. Sloane Stephens has a WTA ranking near 300 and is easily the strongest player on the US team.
As for the LTA's presentation of the doubles results, some would say beating themselves is standard practice for that organisation.
P.s. The real double results (although not the names of the opponents) are in the news story:
Robson and Moore won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 Dean and Brown lost 6-3, 6-7, 5-7

Tara continues to be an enigma in my eyes, though this tournament should be a good boost for her which I hope will put her in good form for next week and wimbledon.
