RE: Week 23 - ATP 250 - AEGON Championships, Queen's Club - Round 3: Andy vs Mardy Fish (USA)

Just got back from a day at Queen's. How frustrating to wait all day for Andy's match, only for it to finish in such an unsatisfactory manner. It honestly didn't seem any darker at the end than it had done for the past couple of hours - grey and overcast yes, but certainly not too dark too play. It was freezing though - well, not actually freezing but very cold.

Please, Andy Murray, finish off Mardy Fish tomorrow as he didn't have the guts to finish the match and let the best man win on the day.

In fairness to Mardy Fish I think many players would have taken the same stance, including Andy, if it looked as if the match was slipping away and there was a chance to have another go tomorrow.

Perhaps it would be better to go back to using a light meter, and say that if it's below a certain reading and either player want's to stop the match they can. And possibly below another limit the match is halted even if both players want to continue.

I doubt if there's a perfect outcome for players and spectators alike, but the scoring system in tennis does such an amazing job of being even handed it would be good to see some of the other anomalies evened up.

I'd have tried the same as Mardy too...

But the question is with Andy standing ready on the baseline how come he wasn't even consulted or informed before Mardy was half way across London?

On the other hand Andy stood on the baseline and didn't make his point until after Mardy had left the court.

So a little more clarity wouldn't go amiss rather than it being a question of who decides to make the biggest fuss.

According to Mardy, he asked to come off at 2-3 and was told by Cedric Mourier that they'd play one more game. This they did, Mardy then left as agreed without making any further appeal. Did Andy know of this plan? No idea.

All I can say is - Come on Llodra!

That was hardly the reason Andy lost the match though. Even if they had played a little longer yesterday they still wouldn't have finished, only started today at 4 or 5 all instead. Only Andy is to blame, he seemed to give up when he went 4-2 down.

His attitude was all wrong from the word go. bleh  I can't see him going all that deep into the Wimbledon draw if he doesn't sort out whatever it is that's not right between the ears at the moment. no

In fact, England probably have more chance of lifting the World Cup than Andy has of conquering SW19! hmm

Or failing him, come on, Rafa!  Only trouble is, he's just lost the first set by 6-7(5), so it may have to be come on, LaLo instead! wink

Andy won't win Wimbledon this year for sure without some big turnaround. He just didn't look bothered today for some reason. Surely all this can't still be because he lost in The Aus Open final. At the moment daren't hope for anything more than a last 16 spot at SW19.

He could prove us all wrong and and do brilliantly of course but i'm not hopeful. Fed would take him apart right now and inflict another bad defeat for Andy.

just have to keep everything crossed and hope for the best.
