Boys: AEGON Junior International Week 2, Nottingham - Grade 4 (Week 15)

Luke Bambridge's quest to improve on last week's semifinal should be tested early on in a quarter that includes top seed Robert Carter, Alexandre Favrot and Toby Martin. He opens against 6th seed Ciaran Fitzgerald, and if he survives from his quarter then another match against Dimitri Bretting is on the cards. Here is the draw

tough for Luke, i reckon Kyle Edmund might do better this week, and Burton should really make the final with his draw

Luke just scraped through his opener (possibly saving matchpoints). Kyle Edmund had a good win over last week's finalist but Connor Glennon was surprisingly beaten by qualifier Jonathan Binding. Joshua Ward-Hibbert had a good win over the 7th seed whilst Evan Hoyt pushed top seed Robert Carter

Ben Mullis seems to be enjoying the conditions: 4 sets played & 3 won with a bagel! Do you know much about him at all?

not heard of him before. id mention that as encouraging as beating the 3rd seed and WR217 is, Sterland-Markovic is prone to losing to much lower ranked players

he's got a great draw opening up for him though

Yeh he seems to be more of a doubles player I think! Harriet Dart also seems to be doing well on the girls side after getting a WC, is this a surprise run too or is she a talent im just unaware of?

Stefan's loss is no great surprise. Wildcards were given to most of our top ranked 1996 girls, including Harriet, who reached the quarters in the Portugal category 1 last week. Her performances have been steady rather than remarkable, but she should be a contender for a place in the GBR under 14 team for the World Junior Championships

Ah thanks for the insight, very interesting! I find it difficult to track all of the juniors apart from the more obviously promising ones.

Luke battles into the quarters, Kyle Edmund has a fantastic 6-2 6-1 win over 4th seed, WR225 defending champion Dimitri Bretting

Excellent stuff - no other scores currently up. From the LTA:

"Edmund, who does not currently hold an ITF ranking, knocked out the defending champion and ITF No.225 Dimitri Bretting of Switzerland 6-2, 6-1 in a superb display.

Meanwhile Bambridge produced a battling display to defeat fellow Briton Toby Martin 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to join Edmund in the quarter-finals draw.

.......
Both matches were watched by new Head of Mens Tennis and AEGON GB Davis Cup Captain Leon Smith who was impressed with the performances of both players.

It was a very impressive performance from Kyle against the winner from last week. He played very offensively and dominated the match from start to finish.

As for Luke, it was an excellent quality match in very difficult conditions. Both players should be commended for showing excellent competitive attitudes but eventually Luke came through with some big serves.

Yes, good stuff from Luke and Kyle.

Luke now plays the no 1 seed, Robert Carter, who he beat last week and Kyle plays Jack Busby.

Lewis Burton has gone for a...err been beaten by Lloyd Glasspool.

Good news Smith was there watching. JL wouldn't have been seen dead at an event like this.
