Boys & Girls: Dunlop Japan Open - Grade 1 (Week 13)

Jennifer Ren's form in South Africa has given her a top 8 seeding, and hence better chance of picking up the big quarter-final points, in the weakest of the four Asian Grade 1s.

James Marsalek just sneaked a low seeding, but will probably have to beat last week's semi-finalist Ben Wagland to reach the quarters.

Boys R1 (L64)

(16) James Marsalek Bye

Girls R1 (L64)

(9) Jessica Ren (GBR) Bye
(6) Jennifer Ren (GBR) Bye

They played together in tournament tennis 8 times in the last year so it is slightly unusual for them to play apart.

Jess lost 4 & 5 to Sezer.

However, after a little sisterly partner swapping, she has reached the QF of the doubles with Rian, facing 882 TADA, Nao/YAMAMOTO, Midori.

Its a long time since Jess beat a higher ranked player in an ITF juniors event. Tada and Yamamoto comfortably dealt with Jennifer and partner, thus preventing a rare match-up with Rens on opposite sides.

I apologise for portmanteauing (if that's even what I did) her partner's name yesterday. Jess avenged her sister's doubles defeat.

GD QF:
PEKHOVA (BLR) / YAMASHITA (JPN) defeated SEZER (TUR) / ZHU (CHN) (5) 6-2 6-4
REN (GBR) / TIAN (CHN) (6) defeated TADA (JPN) / YAMAMOTO (JPN) 5-7 6-3 10-3

EDIT: So I have to jump through hoops to write that name here, do I?
