Maximum wipeout for the hosts in the girls, even Fourouclas and Ive (N.B that's a name, not a lazily spelt contraction) losing--Ive had a tough draw. Well, the locals still have Rasolomalala, Razafimahatratra and Rufyikiri to cheer for, who have SA rankings so, I guess, operate out of the country.

And it's not just the locals cheering for Razafimahatratra. Come on Zarah, justify your new two-digit ranking and send the kid back to motor sport.weirdface.gif

Grr.wink

Puts Jenny's results last week into some sort of perspective, though I'm not sure what sort of perspective.

Who is Hoynaski?

A very good win for Chris over the top seed. However his next opponent is much stronger and actually higher ranked than the top seed, having won last week's tournament. Pavic won 6-2 6-2 when they met earlier in the year. Revenge tomorrow would take Chris into the top 100.

Boys  QF

(6) Christopher Simpson (GBR) d. (1) Hernus Pieters (RSA) 7-6(5) 6-4

SF

(6) Christopher Simpson (GBR) v (5) Mate Pavic (CRO)

Nothing in her ITF record to suggest a strong player at this level. She may be a quick learner though as Jen handed out bakery products to her last week, but struggled this. At least her semi-final opponent had a similar marathon.

The effort may have taken its toll in the doubles, where after a whitewash first set Jen's team lost to Jo and Fran.

Girls  QF

(5) Jennifer Ren (GBR) d. Nicole Hoynaski (AUS)  4-6 7-6(4) 6-3

SF

(6) Katerina Popova (RUS) v (5) Jennifer Ren (GBR)

A disappointing end to the week, with losses in singles and doubles (for Jo and Fran). Jen should scrape into the top 100 as a result, but making progress up the rankings will be much harder in Asia, where she goes next to join Jess, given the quality of the field there.

Boys SF

(5) Mate Pavic (CRO) d. (6) Christopher Simpson (GBR) 6-1 6-4

Girls SF

(6) Katerina Popova (RUS) d. (5) Jennifer Ren (GBR) 6-3 6-4

Indy went on to win the event and will thus move into the top 150 on Monday as the leading 1996 girl. Her ranking is similar to Laura's at the same stage of her junior career, though Indy is a few months younger (still 13)
