Girls: Banana Bowl, Brazil - Grade 1 (Week 10)

A problem with Elisha Gabb's entry for this tournament meant that she had to go into qualifying, and lost in the final round, so will have to hope for a Lucky Loser spot. The draw doesn't give me much optimism of British involvement beyond the first round. Lucy plays the world number 8 whilst Daneika only got 4 games off her opponent when they met last autumn.

R1 (L64)

(1) Jana Cepelova (SVK) v Lucy Brown (GBR)
Saska Gavrilovska (SRB) v Daneika Borthwick (GBR)

I'm pleased to report that Daneika has confounded my low expectations and claimed one of her best wins, over the world no. 85, thus avenging her comprehensive defeat in Thailand last November smile

R1 (L64)

(1) Jana Cepelova (SVK) v Lucy Brown (GBR)   Tuesday
Daneika Borthwick (GBR) d. Saska Gavrilovska (SRB) 6-3 4-6 6-2

R2

(8) Beatrice Capra (USA) v Daneika Borthwick (GBR)

Unfortunately for Daneika Capra is as competent on clay as other surfaces, reaching the semis in Paraguay last week.
