Boys & Girls: Bangladesh International Junior Championships - Grade 3 (Week 9)

The final week of the Bangladesh trilogy includes Amy Askew, hopefully recovered from whatever caused her withdrawal last week. Eden Silva again was granted a wildcard, which I would have thought she would have been better off refusing to gain useful experience of battling to qualify.

Just as in the previous two tournaments it is soon down to Amy in singles. Unfortunately she is in a tough section of the draw. Her next opponent beat her en route to the title 2 weeks ago

Boys R2

(14) Rishabdev Raman (IND) d. Ashwin Kuppusamy (GBR) 6-2 6-4
(5) Chieh-Fu Wang (TPE) d. James Ireland (GBR) 7-6(2) 6-2

Girls R2

(15) Anna Clarice Patrimonio (PHI) d. (Q) Roisin Mullins (GBR) 7-6(4) 6-3
(8) Amy Askew (GBR) d. (LL) Kotchamon Kongkerd (THA) 6-0 6-3

R3

(8) Amy Askew (GBR) v (11) Meng Ning Deng (CHN)

No revenge for Amy, who therefore misses out on the chance of a crack at Shazza mk 2. Deng has to play Sabina Sharipova, an Uzbek who is Laura's closest rival in the WTA rankings among 1994 girls (ranked 408 after a 50K semi). I imagine she is playing here because travelling further afield more often is prohibitively expensive/unpractical. Unsurprisingly she has strolled through last week and this week's tournament so far.

R3

(11) Meng Ning Deng (CHN) d. (8) Amy Askew (GBR) 6-4 6-3
