Intriguing - if Laura hasn't picked up an injury or further growth spurt perhaps she has been offered a WC for one of the big American tournaments in March.
I hope she doesn't feel influenced by the British media. Also her best pal Bouchard withdrew the same day.
I'd very much doubt it. I think her and her team will go their own way.
It does look as if there has maybe been a bit of indecision amongst themselves as to exactly how to proceed. But I really do not believe that is because of the British media nor that they will be influenced by the British media's observations.
Most of the media that I have seen I have thought has been quite sensiible anyway though I accept not all and possibly some I don't read. But whether the media is being sensible or not, I believe Laura and her camp are pretty single-minded.
I think you are right Indiana.I just put it forward after the negative press she received post the recent junior final. Maybe David is right and her team have been in negotiations about a WC for Indian Wells or Miami and that is the reason for the reasonably late withdrawal.
In today's Daily Mail: "Laura Robson's hopes of building on her recent form have been dashed by a wrist injury that may keep her out until the spring. The 16-year old has a problem in her left wrist which needs a cast and she cannot practise for three weeks."
Doesn't sound good, and I'm not sure if its reported some where else in a bit more depth.
She had the injury throughout most of the junior tournament and the end of the doubles. I mentioned it at the time but it didn't seem to effect her performances but playing on under the circumstances can't have been any good for the long term health of her wrist.
dont understand this at all, if she had it then, why would she enter these tournaments if she had no chance of playing, especially this last entry into miami, also cant find anything on this wrist injury
She is also entered for the 25k at Clearwater Florida on the 8th March. So whether the injury is minor and they are playing a wait and see game it is all very strange.
Re entering tournaments, it's quite possible there has been conflicting thoughts and advice about this wrist injury eg, as to how serious it is, can it be played through, just take a little rest, take a long time out etc. I think with some injuries like this, it can be difficult to really access things even by experts.
It seems eminently sensible to me that if in any doubt at all she should now take out as long as she needs so that she and her team are fully confident that it is right again. Especially at her age there is no huge hurry here. To me, get it right and come back to tennis when it is. If indeed she is prevented from practicing for ( just ) 3 weerks and out of competition for a bit longer, I don't see this as any big issue.
If dealt with by being put in a cast, proper rest and recuperation and whatever else is needed to get it right it is a slight setback but no biggee. The worse risk lies in playing on.
Muzza played Davis Cup with a wrist problem when he shouldn't off and his playing on seemed to clearly make things worse. To me, Laura has no big necessity to be playing on even if she might get by. She already has limited senior tournaments she can play anyway this year, so she can take time out and still play these later in the year.
Take time out now. To me, it's a no-brainer.
