Boys: SFAX ITF Juniors, Tunisia - Grade 2 (Week 5)

Tom Farquharson, Chris Simpson and Liam Broady are tackling two Grade 2s in Tunisia, looking for points  to help them qualify for direct acceptance to Grand Slams.  Chris's opponent lost to Ashley last match.

R1 (L32)

Christopher Simpson v (7) Yaraslau Shyla (BLR)
Jakhongir Jalalov (UZB) v (4) Tom Farquharson (GBR)
(8) Tomas Hanzlik (CZE) v Liam Broady (GBR)

Good to see Farquarson's injury wasn't serious.
Tough one for liam to start with.

Are they playing on clay? Would assume so, seeing as they're in Tunisia.

Liam's opponent has lost his last 4 matches, so Liam should have a good chance.

I would have expected clay but in fact both Tunisian tournaments are on hardcourts.

R1 (L32)

(7) Yaraslau Shyla (BLR) d. Christopher Simpson 7-6(5) 6-2
(4) Tom Farquharson (GBR) d. Jakhongir Jalalov (UZB) 6-4 4-6 6-1
Liam Broady (GBR) d. (8) Tomas Hanzlik (CZE) 6-4 6-0

R2

Viktor Stjern (SWE) v (4) Tom Farquharson (GBR)
Liam Broady (GBR) v Juraj Masar (SVK)

Liam's opponent lost to Ashley earlier in the year, and I make both Tom and Liam favourites to make further progress. They have also teamed up for the doubles.

Sadly my confidence was misplaced, and James's quip the most accurate cry

R2

Viktor Stjern (SWE) d. (4) Tom Farquharson (GBR) 7-6(7) 6-4
Juraj Masar (SVK) d. Liam Broady (GBR) 6-0 1-6 6-1

Liam's scoreline was quite bizarre. At least they teamed up to win their doubles opener.

Liam and Tom have had a very good week in the singles, though, and have reached the final.

F.
BROADY (GBR) / FARQUHARSON (GBR) 3 VS NEKIC (GER) / PEHAR (CRO) 4

Our old friend Nekic reappears.

That's singles as in doubles wink Liam's first ITF final, while Nekic is in both finals.
