Over the next few weeks the junior grand prix circuit culminates in Masters events at under 18 down to under 8 level, starting this weekend with the under 18s
Top seed Fran Stephenson was upset in the first round. Here are the draws (boys first):
Both events were won by 1993 borns - Toby Martin and Abbi Melrose. Toby had a fine start to his ITF junior career at the back end of 2009, and could be one to watch for 2010.
The under 14 grand prix masters takes place from this Friday to Sunday. The trio of boys who have qualified for the Tennis Europe Winter Cup final head the seedings, while the girls event includes one of the TE trio, Grace Dixon, along with Les Petits As Consolation singles winner Alice Keddie and top 1997 girls Freya Christie and Lana Rush.
Josef Dodridge upset Joshua Sapwell, providing Peter Ashley with an untroubled route to the final, where he defeated top seed Shakeel Manji in straight sets.
Like Peter, Alice Keddie also did not drop a set, beating Harriet Dart in the final.
This weekend it is the turn of the under 16s and most attention will be on the return after injury of Eddie Herr finalist Katy Dunne, who has won her opening match, but should be tested by Pippa Horn in the quarters.
The boys draw is here (Jonathan Cornish being top seed):
Katy lost the battle of the top 1995 girls to Pippa, paving the way for Emma Devine to follow up her breakthrough ITF tournament in the Netherlands with the title here, not dropping a set. Jonathan Cornish edged an epic first set tiebreak (18-16!) in the final to take the boys title.
