Weeks 3/4 - Australian Open

Thought I'd get something off my chest to start the day smile   A little email to info@lta.org.uk  :

Good morning,

Do your news article contributers always consider what they are writing are on they sometimes on auto-pilot ?.

Given, as you will be aware, that Andy had to have one of the top 2 seeds and one of seeds 3 & 4 in his half, I and others I have talked to about the draw absolutely fail to see that this is a tough draw ( or else all draws are tough and the phrase bexomes meaningless ). .

On both rankings and form surely Nadal & Del Potro are preferable to Federer and Djokovic.  In no way certainly could they be thought to be worse.  Even in last 16, Monfls (12) is ;lowest rank Andy could have been due to potentially face as the no 5 seed and again Monfils' form and fitness does not seem to make him the worst choice at all from seeds 9 to 12.

I am sorry but to me this just seemed a sloppy unthinking article, and I would expect better.

Yours sincerely,,

IIain Goodbrand

Edit :  I hope they don't commnent on my own slight sloppiness in my email including my inability to spell my own name  ashamed.gif

Well said Indiana!

Andy's half has changed a bit since Gilles Simon had to withdraw. Ferrer moves away from Andy's quarter to Simon's place in Fed's quarter; John Isner becomes 33rd seed and takes Ferrer's place in the draw; and Isner's place is taken by qualifier Blaz Kavcic.

Andy is third match on RLA on Monday, play starting at 11am local time, with two ladies matches before him. So probably some ungodly time like 3am-4am UK time. I hope the BBC show the match as promised, I'll set the video - I can't hack staying up all night any more!

Good first match for Andy to get his teeth into.

Anderson's serve isn't the weapon I thought it was going to be - considering he's 6'8" it's a poor shot.

Murray was simply too good for Anderson.

1st serve percentage was at like 30% tho which is worrying!

His 2nd serve also was a weakness as Anderson got a few cheap points off of Murray's 2nd serve, this could become an issue against bigger opponents.

All in all a convincing win

I somehow set my video for channel 20 instead of 2 doh.gif

Never mind, the Beeb showed a full replay after the live play finished on interactive this afternoon. A good confident start, get the first serve % up and he could do well this year. Made Anderson's serve look tame.

Yeah Madeline - wouldn't worry about seeing this one to be honest. Hardly a classic! I almost felt cheated having gone to bed at 7pm to be up for 3.30am.. as far as I'm concerned Anderson owes me an early morning match of 3 sets containing a bare minimum of 30 games!  wink

Just a very routine win against an opponent who just wasn't anywhere good enough to give Murray much of a test.

Serve was a little disappointing and against a better player would have been punished more, but you would expect it to improve as the week goes on.
