Last 16, where he had to be in line to potentially face one of seeds 9 to 12, I'd settle for Monfils at the Aus Open.
Re quarters, we knew he had to have one of the top 4, again I'd settle for Nadal in his most recent form and Andy has good Aus history of that 5 set fight with Nadal when much less able than he is now.
I think a Nadal / Del Potro half is preferable to a Federer / Djokovic half.
So much water though to flow under the bridge before we see if Andy or the others reach any of these potential appointments.
He may have ended up in Nadal's section but it's a pretty good draw for Murray on the whole and he would have taken it at the start I'm sure.
Should have no trouble getting into the 4th round and even then an injured Monfils or a woefully out of form Ferrer shouldn't cause him any trouble, so an easy start.
He get to the QF's without much of a problem and then hopefully he can beat Nadal there.
I don't think it's a bad draw at all. given the choice would you rather be in the half with the 1&3 seed or the 2&4?!? I know at the top it's more about how the games match up, and in that case my preference would always be to avoid Nole, which he's done. Potty seems to Pot luck (no pun intended, honest guv). and Nadal seems to be in worse form that Federer at the moment who is just the last one you want to see in the latter stages of a grand slam. So all in all, I'm pretty happy with that draw.

Yes, agree that this is a good draw. Also avoids Verdasco, Gonzalez, Cilic or even Davydenko or Wawrinka - all could be dangerous and there is history of these type of players going on hot winning streaks at the Aussie open. If Andy gets to the quarters, he will have done better than ever before, a little pressure will be off......interesting!
I could have done without a match-up with Melzer. Although Andy beats him he usually struggles a bit against him and uses up energy he needs later! Otherwise as good as could be expected.
LTA news section reckon Andy's been "placed in tough half in Australia" with Nadal and Del Potro. I am presuming that they actually do understand that he had to have one of the top 2 seeds and one of seeds 3 & 4 in his half

Will I be accused of too much cynicism if I suggest that maybe they wrote the article (including headline) a few days ago and just filled in the blanks when they knew the names?

L128: (5) Andy Murray WR 5 v (Q) Kevin Anderson (RSA) WR 147 (CH 95 in June 2009)
Andy has never played Anderson before, but the South African has played quite a few other Brits in the past, losing to Jamie Baker in the Brownsville Future Final in 2008 (just before Jamie got ill and Kevin made his big breakthrough by qualifying for Las Vegas ATP then reaching the Final) and to Chris Eaton in the Nottingham Challenger last year. He has won the rest apart from a loss to Oliver Freelove way back in 2003 but the last time he met a Brit, Dan Evans only went down to him in a final set tiebreak in the Granby Challenger last summer.
Hence not the worst qualifier Andy could have got, though they can all be dangerous in R1!
