GB with 3 set points at 6 - 3 in TB, but Spain win the next 4 points on Robredo's and Laura's serve, the fourth point that gives Spain a set point won with a volley from Robredo that looked suspiciously on replay a as if he hit it on the GB side.
Commentators were sayng he was getting closer to the net than Andy but that was a bit ridiculous !
Spain setpoint won so win the set 7 - 6 (6)
Laura played well in that set, especally valiantly competing with Robredo in cross court rallies with Andy unable to intercept.
I'd say she has been the better female, unfortunately Robredeo the better ( well certainly more influential ) male.
This match is still winnable though, on the evidence of the first set
Darn, I was just writing in the game Andy's serve game that took it to 5 - 5, saving 2 MPs, when my AOL decided to knock off for a bit and come back to life now Spain have evidently won
Apologies for not bringing it home pointswise though its not the end we wanted anyway.
Robrdeo definitely player of the Mixed Doubles. Although I earlier said neither he nor Andy were regular doubles players I guess he's had more experience, certainly tactically more astute than Andy in this match and generally very solid.

I remember a discussion some while ago on the Rusedski board about up and coming players. I said there was one name that might be worth watching, a very young player called Laura Robson who seemed to have loads of potential. She had developed the habit of losing to strong juniors one week and then beating them convincingly the very next time she played them. It was before she started playing the senior circuit and there were comments that potential in players that young is not always realised. That discussion took place only about 2 years ago and she has now beaten the world number 26. I doubt if she would have won that match at the beginning of the week but Laura still seems to have that ability to learn from her losses and rise to a new higher challenge.
With Andy it's best to take it one match at a time. This time last year we all got excited about Andy at the AO and then it all ended in Rd 4. Personally, if Andy gets further this year to at least the last 8 then that is a new high for him. Not sure he'll be the champion but he has a chance. At least on this site we have genuine tennis lovers who appreciate him for what he has achieved so far unlike on Eurosport where you read some horrible things about him and are just left baffled by some peoples comments. I love this site.
Anyway back to the Hopman Cup. Well done Laura. Great win there and a fantastic learning curve. Got good feeling about her if she just develops at her own pace. Didn't see Andy losing that one though. Shame after Laura winning but you have to smile really and say typical after being the other way round all week. Never mind at least we got to take part and made the final. Can't be bad. Maybe they could team up again some time in mixed at a slam.
