After flowing through the first set, not quite as free hitting in the second but still very competitive and what fighting spirit.
The breakback at 3 - 5 and then service hold at 4 - 5 were crucial because I don't think she would have won a 3rd set and Martinez Sanchez maybe helped slightly by getting carried away with her dropshots near the end, effective as they had been to then. Then to lose 4 match points in the TB and not really through any fault of her own ( which at least is what she could tell herself ) and still show such composure to win the next 2 points and the match.
Knowing what problems she has had seemingly with nerves before at crucial points I thought she was incredibly composed tonight when it mattered.
Bring home Laura's diamonds, Andy ( no pressure, mate )

What an effort. That first set was just unbelievable and then to have the nerve to take the match on the fifth MP was impressive. This could be the making of Laura . I wonder whether she will reconsider Aussie open because surely a wildcard is hers.
Saw the match from *5-6 in the 2nd set - she was amazingly composed in that tiebreak, getting 1st serves in when she needed to, weathering the storm when Martinez Sanchez suddenly started to play exceptionally well and saved all those MPs, then playing that brilliant DTL at 6-6 to get another m/b before finishing it off.

Come on Andy . Pressure on
Ah, I take it then that it was Laura's choice not to accept a qualifying WC ? I did find it very strange if she wasn't being offered one.
Heck after this, any MD WCs left ??
I do think though she should take a qualifying WC if it is on offer, especially given the ranking points on offer for just winning one match. And it is very clear she can win that and more.

You know I wasn't even aware I had written that maybe it is intuition or it was just a plain mistake.
I know it might be a controversial selection but based on current form who would you rather have on your Fed cup team Laura or Katie ? I know Laura won't play but what a dilemma.

Andy lost his fire a bit and at points turned back to being a bit more passive.
I didn't like that pull he seemed to have in the middle of the set. Didn't seem to concern him at all, but is it my imagination or has been not quite been moving as well in the latter part of the second set ?
Anyway, one set all. C''mon Andy, Laura was hoping her work was done for the day.

Well, the real Andy Murray disappeared from midway through the second set to midway through the third set or in some ways a return to the bad old Andy.
Seemed to become a bit too passive, thinking he could win by just keeping ball in play. Robrdeo got in a groove running Andy around, Andy lost his groove and never got it back enough to get back in the match.
Worryingly seen this before. All looks wonderful, and he has been in really good form here, and then he quite unaccountably loses his way. Hope the lesson has been learned, start with aggresive intention, keep it that way, how many times does he want to lose to a basically lesser player that he allows to start swinging ??
Actually, coincidentally or not, think it almost stemmed from the magnificent effort when Andy hurdled a sponsor sign and nearly went into the crowd and still won the point. I think he sometimes thinks he can get almost anything back with his defensve abilities, instead of being more continually positive and letting these defensive abilities be what separates him from others when he does get into trouble.
That match just there may ultimately be a huge lesson before the Australian Open, hope so !!
Anyway back to more immediate matters. Guess it's another mixed doubles. Who's favourites ? What's going to happen ? Does anyone have any idea ?
Or am I all alone now, and folk went off to bed after Andy's first set

You'd have to make Spain Favorites now anything short on Robredo's Forehand looks like end of point I'm hoping Andy tries to make amends and is ultra agressive in the dubs Sanchez's serve looks a weak spot
One worry I would have is that magnificently though Laura played, Martinez Sanchez is a better player than she showed in her singles. She was basically on a hiding to nothing and I even saw her basically admitting herself in a courtside interveiw that nerves got the better of her.
She will surely be more relaxed in a doubles in the company of Robredo.
But, on the other hand, Andy and Laura have been a great team in the mixed and well though Robrdeo was hitting the ball, neither he or Andy are really experienced doubles player, and the instinctive, reactive and volleying skills that doiubles calls for are surely much more Andy's forte. I suspect Andy could be a really good doubles player if you add these points to his returning ability if he ever really concentrated on doubles, which of course he can't really.
Then again, the Spaniards have seemed to be a good doubles pair too on their results.
