For the first event of the 2010 season Oliver Golding is seeded to reach the quarters in a Grade A event, but has a potential banana skin in round 1 playing against an American who qualified for the orange Bowl, beating Andrew Bettles en route. Andrew and George Morgan have opted out leaving Robert Carter as the only other Brit here - he will have to beat a seed in round 1, but the Australian has lost first round in his last three tournaments.
R1 (L64)
Robert Carter v (13) Ben Wagland (AUS) Shaun Bernstein (USA) v (7) Oliver Golding
Having survived his test Olly looks to have a reasonable draw through to the quarters. Partnering Rodney Carey (Bahamas) he is seeded six in the doubles.
Olly progresses more smoothly into round 3, but exits from the doubles. Another win would set up a potential rematch with Junior Ore, who he edged past 7-5 in the third at the Eddie Herr.
R2:
(7) Oliver Golding (GBR) d. Alon Faiman (ISR) 6-3 6-3
R3
(7) Oliver Golding (GBR) v Luis Patino (MEX) or (11) Dane Webb (USA)
Apart from moving into the top 40 Olly has also equalled the best British Grade A performance since Andy Murray (Dan Evans reached the quarters at the Australian and US Opens). Rankings should be updated on Monday.
