And we're away again
Jo could run into the highly rated Sachia Vickery if she wins.

Heather's withdrawal enabled Lucy to move into the seeds, and she has a friendly draw to reach her seeded position - but then will probably be up against the in-form top seed Gabriela Dabrowski.
Jess and Jen both face potentially tricky second round matches (against Swedish Fed Cup player Ellen Allgurin and third seed Sachie Ishizu respectively), but neither can complain about their first-round draws. Jo has a decent opener, but will still do well to advance to meet Vickery

Jess had a titanic battle last time she met Ellen, just shading the High Coast semi (going on to take the title), which avenged a defeat earlier in the year. The Rens are seeded six in the doubles, and there is only doubles action for the girls today.
The five sets Allgurin & Jess have played this year all have finished either 6-4 or 7-5 will be a good pointer to Jess's improvement or otherwise Jess & Jen won there doubles match 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 unfortunately Joanna & Lucy lost there doubles 4-6, 6-2, 10-7
The good news is that Lucy has taken advantage of her kind draw, and will be on the cusp of the top 100 as a result. The bad news is that the Orange Bowl winner is next up.
R2:

R3
(1) Gabriela Dabrowski (CAN) v (16) Lucy Brown (GBR)
I think Jess has improved so let's hope for a more straightforward scoreline.
Well it was certainly a more straightforward scoreline, but not in the way we wanted - perhaps Ellen has improved more than Jess (not obvious from recent results) or Jess just had one of those days.
