Again katy is very nearly 15 so really needs to be winning these type of events to be considered an outstanding prospect remember Laura was only 13 when she won it.
Still would be a good achievement and Laura has a January birthday, so would have been "very nearly" 14, in fact more "very nearly" 14 than Katy ( February birthday ) is "very nearly" 15 In fact, just about 11 months between the relevant ages at the time of their finals, so not huge amount.
Maybe still a reasonable difference at such ages, but anyway I would still be impressed with the ability to come through, even if just to the final, in such a competition and anyway still for the next couple of years or so, progress and general maturity can vary so much.
It will be interesting, initially, to see how much Katy backs this up through into 2010.

I wasn't trying to understate what would be a great achievement but to just put it in perspective. Katy is certainly a promising young talent but not one we should be hyping up too much and putting too much pressure at this early stage of her development.
That I absolutely do agree with Phil, not that I was aware she was being particularly hyped at all.
Just thought, wait a minute this 13 and nearly 15 was a bit selective
Laura of course, much more relevantly, has gone on to back her Eddie Herr wins with Wimbledon 2008 and her occasionally very significant senior wins.
I have personally on this board been even unwilling to join in real hyping ( and unhyping when she loses a match folk maybe expected her to win ) of Laura, but I am very excited about what the future could possibly bring for her.
Because of the fact we have so few top class juniors Katy winning a title such as the Eddie Herr would automatically catapult her to the front of everyones minds. I believe she has adopted the home schooling route so there is already a lot of pressure to succeed at this sport.
Ah pity Katy couldn't ultimately win the title, though if she was carrying an injury it may partly explain her loss whilst clearly also being very frustrating.
...and here's a recent article about Katy which partially explains why she is not on any entry lists at the moment (another article more specifically said that 'shes having a break right now because shes hurt one of her fingers so shes doing a lot of gym work and not hitting too many forehands')
