Heather cruised through, apparently.smile

as expected, not really excited about this tourney from her prospective, not much to gain, rankings points in junior, but that is it, and she will be moving to proffesional next year

Yes, I got heather info from there, but the buchina news from another poster on tennisforum .com.

oh and in response to tennis 36, ranking points are still important as the top 3 year end juniors get better DE into pro events next year and she doesn't want babos to catch hersmile

just read that buchina has withdrawn and will be replaced by lucky loser. no proper source though, so not sure.

Confirmed on the Eddie Herr website. Bizarrely

(10) Daneika Borthwick v (LL) Tamara Bizhukova (RUS)

ie a repeat of yesterday's final qualifier

Heather in a local newspaper article admitted that she played poorly in her last tournament and that her aim for this week was to play aggressive tennis and stay relaxed as she struggles when she is too nervous. ( junior wimbledon this year being a good example)

R1 (L64)

(1) Heather Watson d. Marianne Jodoin (CAN) 6-2 6-0
(LL) Tamara Bizhukova (RUS) d. (Q) Daneika Borthwick 7-6(5) 6-3
(7) Yulia Putintseva (RUS) v (SE) Jessica Ren

R2

(1) Heather Watson v Monica Turewicz (USA)

I don't know much about Turewicz, but ominously she beat someone ranked in the top 500 WTA 1 & 1

Heather must still be a big favourite on home turf.

That's not very good mind you Putintseva could quite possibly win the whole thing. What a difference a week makes a kind draw and a semi last week a tough draw and an exit in round 1 this week.
