Disappointing end to a much more promising beginning - despite the loss of the first game for which he compensated with an immediate break back. The first set was good with Andy resisting the pressure from Fed even with poor serving. From the point where he was broken in set 2, Andy seemed a different player. He was close to breaking Fed in 1 game in set 2 but other than that, he seemd to collapse mentally. It was almost as if he was playing with an injury without showing any real signs of injury other than the occasional leg touching. He was firing just too long and losing his service games far too easily. I don't think Fed was at his best - he also made lots of unforced errors.
Very disappointed that there was more support for Federer, despite the British no 1 playing on home territory.
Just to touch on the doubles as there isn't a thread - very impressed with Matkowski's serve. He was firing at 138/139 most of the time. No wonder he beats our boys.
First visit to the O2. Works very well as a tennis venue.
What do you think the viewing would be like from the top tier as my parents are going their on Saturday and are worried the players are going to look that matchsticks from that distance away.
It does look quite steep on the upper level but I think you will still get a reasonable view. As the court is lit and the spectators are in semi-darkeness, it makes it easier to concentrate on the players without being distracted by what is going on around. I also have tickets for the upper tier on Saturday evening - bit worried as I do get a bit of mountain sickness at that height but the ticket was given to me by a friend who booked a holiday after booking the seats.
The Jubilee Line isn't running at the weekend so getting to the O2 is going to be more of a problem than normal. Think I might drive as they are also cancelling trains willy nilly on my line, sometimes the last one - not very helpful when the matches finish so late.
