Well that was fantastic....this had everything. Murray didnt miss much in the opening 5 or 6 games and had his usual end of set falter but to be honest it was Delpo who eventually got his act together. Some power hitting...the noise of raquet on ball was so deep. Murrays serve really kicked in when Delpo squared the match at 1 set all. You can see why Murray is the best returner in the game.
Make no mistake this was a HUGE win for Andy....if he can play like that against Verdasco then there will be only one winner. Andy also has nothing to fear against Fed. Odds on for a SF place IMO.
Had to go at the start of the third set, with the match, so good to see an Andy win.
Wish that Murray would top going to sleep at times during matches, every time he goes a double break up he seems to just relax and let his opponent back in it.
Also he seems to have forgot how to use an attacking slice shot, so many times Del Potro dropped it short and Murray could have sliced his backhand and approached but he just seemed unsure what to do.
I missed a lot of this match as our daughter came home this weekend to run the Newcastle Marathon (no, you won't have heard of it, there wasn't a huge field and it was the very first one). I hoped to be home by the start but she went and won the darn thing so we had to stay for the presentations!
Got home just in time to see him drop his serve at the start of the second set. It's becoming quite a habit, and one I hope he breaks soon! That set was pretty tense with the momentum swinging from one to the other, but the third was more comfortable. However, I suppose you can't expect a match between the world #4 and #5 to be one-sided, so a very good win for Andy. 5-1 sounds very nice.
Got back from the O2 about 2 hours ago. Was a great match, atmosphere good and the build up and lighting/presentation was spot on. Apparently I was on telly (probably) but not had chance to check the tape out yet!
Good that you enjoyed it. It does seem a bit weird watching on TV with the spectators in the dark. Pretty good performance from Andy but I can't work out why Delpo described him as 'lucky'.
Just watching Federer draw level with Verdasco. Fed not looking that special - far too many errors. After his comments, it will be very interesting to see his match with Andy which would be on Tuesday if he can win this one.
(congratulations to Madeline's daughter for her impressive run)
I was in the arena, in the front section (but in row Y, so still waaaaay back!) right above the centre line, and they did a very good job of staging the match itself. The atmosphere was good - not up to DC standard, but a lot louder than Wimby/Queens and there seemed to be a lot of kids there. I saw a lot of Argentinian shirts too - clearly holding the WTF in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world has its benefits!
Outside the arena itself, the O2 was not so nice and security had gone mad, concentrating on all the wrong things, I thought. I was searched twice, had my camera peered at for 5 minutes as they tried to work out whether it was a dSLR (it's not, but is bigger than your average compact digital), since dSLRs are apparently 'professional' and not allowed, despite their publicity exhorting people not to forget to bring their cameras, and (as the Count kindly warned me I would), I experienced the mysterious "I can sell you this (unbelievably expensive, even for a venue like that) bottle of water, but I'll have to take off the lid and throw it away first" ... clearly they wanted me to tip it over row X if I got tripped up going back to my seat, maybe they thought they needed to be cooled down?
Andy started off very well, I thought, but Potty didn't wake up for five games - when he went for the medical timeout for the nosebleed, I thought he was going to say his injury had recurred and pull out to avoid further humiliation!
Even the GB fans started to cheer for him not to get bagelled at 5-0. They obviously don't follow the Muzz closely, because after Potty got on the scoresheet, Andy predictably dropped serve and lost, what was it, 5 of the next 6 games!
Muzza played very well in the 3rd set though and was right about serving being the key to each set. On the evidence of today (and previously, for that matter), he's a much better, more rounded player than Juan Martin, and although there was a fair bit of passive moonballing on show today, there was a lot of good stuff too and he mixed it up pretty well. In fact, Delpo wasn't smacking the passive returns for winners either, so they can't have have been that 'moony'.
Went back to London Bridge on the Thames Clipper (not the O2 special, the regular stopping service) which was fun too

Can someone who went yesterday please tell me if you are allowed to take your own food. I assume from Steven's comment that you can only take in drinks that you buy there.
Get well soon Steven - sorry you'll miss out on Wednesday.
