Boys: Nokia Junior Cup, Finland - Grade 4 (Week 42)

Stefan Sterland-Markovic is having a good week here so far. I notice that his most recent victim claims grass as his favourite surface, despite the lack of such courts in Russia and never having played on it in an ITF event - perhaps a tongue-in-cheek comment.

Singles R1 (L32)

(4) Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR) d. Pavels Grigorjevs (LAT) 6-2 6-3

R2

(4) Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR) d. Herkko Pollanen (FIN) 4-6 7-5 7-5

QF

(4) Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR) d. Aslan Karatsev (RUS) 3-6 6-3 6-4

SF

(4) Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR) v (5) Erik Moberg (SWE)

Doubles SF

(1) Igoshin/Karlovskiy (RUS) v (3) Moberg (SWE) / Sterland-Markovic (GBR)

One out of two for Stefan, who may need a bigger trophy cabinet soon, as he bags his fifth doubles title of the year. All the titles though have been in Grade 4 or 5 events, which restricts his ability to progress up the rankings far. Nevertheless he should enter the top 250 for the first time on Monday.

Singles Final

(1) Denis Mylokostov (UKR) d. (4) Stefan Sterland-Markovic (GBR) 6-4 7-5

Doubles Final

(3) Moberg (SWE) / Sterland-Markovic (GBR) d. (2) Filin / Yatsyk (BLR) 6-3 7-5

Not suprised they won the doubles given that one of his opponents was just standing in! wink.gif
