There are three British players in the main draw starting Sunday, following the late withdrawal of Hannah James.
Heather Watson will be seeded but has had no competitive match since July. She had to pull out of her one warm-up event (25K Belgium qualifying) because of delays to her passport/visa renewal.
Laura Robson should be buoyed by her fine run in the women's qualifying, but will probably be unseeded, so could face a tough opener.
Steph Cornish will be looking to end her junior career with a first win at Grand Slam level outside of the UK
(10)Richel Hogenkamp (NED) v Paula Ormaechea (ARG) (Q)Ting-Fei Juan (TPE) v (wc)Grace Min (USA) Yana Buchina (RUS) v Stephanie Cornish (GBR) (5)Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO) v (wc)Alexandra Cercone (USA)
Buchina is a difficult draw for Steph. She is ranked 27 and lost narrowly to Laura in Italy
(12)Tamaryn Hendler (BEL) v (wc)Jacqueline Cako (USA) Yulia Putintseva (RUS) v Anna-Lena Friedsam (GER) Laura Robson (GBR) v Ons Jabeur (TUN) (7)Lauren Embree (USA) v (Q)Paula Kania (POL)
Jabeur is ranked 71 having won a lot of matches in clay-court events, but is a grand slam novice, so is an ideal opponent for Laura. However Laura's potential second-round opponent (Embree) is very strong, having dished out bakery products to Heather in the Eddie Herr final last year, and lost very narrowly to Shenay Perry in qualifying for the US Open main draw.
(8)Christina McHale (USA) v Fatma Al Nabhani (OMA) Mai Grage (DEN) v (Q)Risa Ozaki (JPN) Cristina Dinu (ROU) v (Q)Courtney B.Dolehide (USA) (11)Heather Watson (GBR) v Ksenia Kirillova (RUS)
One of the worst draws Heather could have faced. Kirillova is ranked 22, having won one of the strong Grade 1 tournaments in the build-up to the Australian Open
Laura is second on court 14 today, whilst Heather is second on court 16 Steph plays on Monday.
The match before Heather's has finished, and the match before Laura's will probably finish in the next few minutes (Collarini leads by a set and 5-3), so both should be up shortly
