Rogers Cup - Final: Andy vs JMDP

H-H is 3:1 to Andy, with JMDP winning their most recent encounter on clay in Madrid this year.

Andy has saved a lot of break points in this tournament so far, and he's needed to because his 1st serve %age has not been great, as exemplified in his match against Tsonga where it was in the low 40's. Unless he can find his 1st serve, or adopts a more aggressive strategy, I think he'll struggle against an opponent who fashioned 7 break points against the Roddick serve... how many chances will he have against the Murray serve?!

6.30 pm UK time. Darn it I'll have to rearrange or cut short my weekly phone call to our daughter.

This lad worries me, he has become a real threat to any player. I hope Andy can find his serve to get a few cheap points. Apart from that, I wonder if we will see a lot of slices, getting low being one of the big fella's weaker points.

There's just something about Del Potro that makes his game very dull to watch, but it is very effective all the same and he's becoming a threat on hard and clay courts.

Will be interesting to see whether he's improved enough to beat Murray on a hard court though and he must be getting tired having played a lot of tennis in the last couple of weeks.

As long as Murray serves well, I'd fancy him to win the match as I think he's still a better player than Del Potro, but if he does serve at around 40%, then you'd expect Del Potro to be able to return the serve a lot better than Tsonga did yesterday.

Murray to get the win in three sets I think.

1st set goes to Potro. Andy had a golden opportunity to break midway through that set, but in truth they both made quite a few unforced errors.

Potro is serving well now, but how much gas has he got left in the tank?

Best of 3 set final.

Murray will need to go to 3 sets now having lost the first set 7-6(4).

Neither man is playing that well, but the level got better as the set went on. Just the one minibreak in the tiebreak and it came at 4-4 when Del Potro attacked a weak Murray second serve.

Del Potro looks tired and he had to win that set really to have a chance. Murray can win this but he's got to raise his game a bit if he is to do so.

Another chance for Andy in game 3 ...   he couldn't take it.  Kevin the Teenager making a brief appearance there - Andy needs to stay patient and focussed.
