Tsonga's a gifted athlete who is prone to injury, and does not like long rallies. Andy should mix it up with lots of junk balling and slices, grind him down, and let him beat himself.
Pretty, no. Effective, yes.
... tactics as used in R1 of the AO against, er, Tsonga. Ooops!
How many times will you lose 3/4 sets while winning more games, breaks, and points than your opponent, though?
Far too rarely to let such an eventuality radically alter your approach IMO.
Only managed to see the tiebreak and he probably should have lost that, but Tsonga's ridiculous decision to play the drop shot cost him the set.
Can't comment too much on the performance but looks like he did enough to get the win. Still worried about the first serve percentage and against a better returner than Tsonga (probably the worst of the top 10) would have been in a bit more trouble.
Still, world number two is a great achievement and that's 5/6 hard court 1000 series finals he's reached now, with just Nalby in Paris stopping him (which was partly due to Murray being tired, and partly due to Nalby in inspired form that week with a match-up that favours Nalby).
Would fancy him in the final against Roddick or Del Potro if he plays well.
