All three championships take place on clay during the next 2 weeks in Bournemouth, starting with the under 14s. Katy Dunne has been our leading player in Tennis Europe events this year, and she will be seeded 1, followed by top 1996 girl Eleanor Dean, Beth Askew and Alice Keddie. Pippa Horn is a notable absentee but American based Katie Boulter is given a wildcard.
Grace Dixon pulled out of the U14 after sustaining a bad back injury at the Northumberland Open during the past week. In another note Danieka Borthwick will play Alex Walker in the final of the Ladies singles at the same event.
Injuries appear to have been a significant factor with our U14 girls lately. Apart from Pippa and Grace, Katy Dunne has had to miss a few tournaments, including the European Championships. Eden Silva has only recently returned to action after a long break (reason unknown to me) and Eleanor Dean retired through injury during a recent TE 14 tournament.
All the top 5 seeds progressed easily today, but Harriet Dart (seeded 6) had a surprise loss to Alannah Griffin. In round 2 the top quarter sees Katy Dunne take on Katie Boulter, who recently won the Bournemouth Category 3 tournament, and Eden Silva play Grace Lymer-Sulivan, deputy for Katy at the European Championships
I predict Brigit Folland pulling off a shock against Beth Askew. She's playing well at the moment after reaching a ETA final last month. I wouldn't bet against Eden Silva taking out Dunne either.

You are better at predicting upsets than I am

Katy and Eleanor have both yet to drop more than 5 games in a match
Eleanor told the LTA: It feels really good to be the national champion, said Dean. Its really hard on Katy as it was so close and it was such a good match. I didnt go out there today with my A game, so I had to just get through it with a positive attitude. It was a hard game, a mental game. I wasnt hitting my best at all."

"Enjoyed watching the 14 final, very impressed with both players, especially their ability to retrieve. Some super rallies because both able to scramble returns and work their way back into a point. Katy stormed back in the second and looked good at 2-1 in the third. Eleanor just seemed that bit tougher and together when the crunch came. First sighting for me of both players and I shall follow thir progress wih interest."
