Wimbledon - Quarter Final : Andy vs Juan Carlos Ferrero

JCF would have been happy Andy played so long but it could have been longer I suppose !

H2H is 1-0 to Andy after thrashing him at Queens.

Should be much easier than against Stan but Ferrero is on form.

Still Andy in 3 for me.

Will be played on Wednesday....more than likely centre court late PM.

Hey, is anyone here lucky enough to have been drawn from the ballot and have tickets for the Centre Court on Wednesday?  I'm flying down to London to queue in under 9 hours now, and am still not quite finished packing! cry

I expect Andy to win, but like against Stan, it may not be straight forward, I reckon he may need 4 sets to win.

yes, Wednesday CC tickets - at the back but in the shade, roof or no roof, so extremely pleasant. Just worried they might put Andy on court 1 but they wouldn't dare, would they?

No way will Murray be on Court 1!!

I expect Federer will be on Court 1 though with Hewitt and Roddick on Centre

Ha, ha, I think you can assume Andy's on Centre Court for the duration.  If they were going to move him anywhere else, they would have done it for the Wawrinka match.

Ruddy good job they didn't, because Roddick's match started at much the same time on Court 1, just he got his match done and dusted while there was still natural light !  smile  ( then again Andy may have some feeling that the very fact that his Centre Court match wasn't "natural" did contribute a bit to its length )

I could, by the way, actually see Hewitt v Roddick being the other Centre Court match and Federer v Karlovic going to Court 1.  Djokovic v Haas will be on Court 1, assuming Djokovic doesn't plead for another match on Court 3  wink.gif   I am assuming that they don't see a need to have both top half matches being played about the same time.

Anyway, hopefully the Wawrinka match was a kick up the backside for Andy at quite a good time.  I think it may do him no harm at all, and I don't think that he will have any particular physical conseqences.

Andy in 3 sets for me.  Though my predictions on who may or may not cause him problems this year have been err not the best.

I hope you're right about the Fed match being on court 1 as that's the QF I'd least like to watch.

One small concern I have about Andy's scheduling and it does require a leap of faith that he gets to the final and plays Federer - do you think that the fact that he always plays 3rd match when it's cooler means he will cope less well with the early afternoon heat than Federer who is very used to playing at that time of day?

The annual Stew B Wimbledon trip - isn't it your birthday around now, if my memory serves me right? Wear a yellow t-shirt and you'll feel more at home in the queue!

Yes, it's my birthday tomorrow, and what a way it'll be to spend it if I can see Murray play some of his best stuff in Centre. I'm now in London, waiting for my Greenline bus to depart, but funnily enough, despite packing more clothes than any sensible person would, I didn't bring any yellow tops with me! Right now I'm wearing a blue cookie monster t-shirt, blue floral shorts and blue converse which have a floral design on them... I think I look rather cool smile.gif

Okay, in the time it took me to type all that on my phone keypad, the coach has now left, and I'm hoping to be in the queue for before 14:00.

Federer/Karlovic and Djokovic/Haas should be one first, and then Murray/Ferrero and Hewitt/Roddick should be on second, presuming that they want Murray to be the later match for the viewing figures.

I guess they have to keep the halves playing at the same time as otherwise someone could get a lot more recovery time and they have split the halves in the womens draw, so presumably will do the same with the mens.

In all honesty, the two most interesting matches are Djokovic/Haas and Roddick/Hewitt, but I would imagine at least one, if not both of them would be on court 1... as Murray will definately be on centre court, while Federer is almost always on centre, but may be moved to court 1 for this match.

Murray shouldn't have too many problems getting past Ferrero given how easily he beat him at Queens, but then we didn't suspect Wawrinka would push him as close as he did.

I do agree with FD that if they do want to put a bottom half match on first on Centre Court for reasons of having the halves playing at about the same time then I'd say Djokovic v Haas is a better pick than Federer v Karlovic.  I still see though Djokovic v Haas as being a Court 1 match whatever, but I wouldn't mkind being wrong.

Re the women's semis, I actually think the two matches on Centre are the natural two best picks anyway.  So rather than the first call be keeping the halves playing at the same time it is possible that they just selected the most appropriate two games and then that done it then made sense to have the two halves playing at similar times.

I have not done any research of past semi scheduling to see if there appears any firm policy of having matches from different halves on Centre at the quater final stage so that they can have the halves playing at the same time.  This will happen to an extent naturally since there is randomly a 2 to 1 chance against the two Centre Court matches from same half and also, if still around, the two top seeds will be in different halves of the draw.  But I do kind of wonder if it very rarely or never happens that the two Centre matches are from the same half of the draw.

It's really not something that I have thought about before it just crossed my mind above whether that would really influence against Hewit v Roddick and Murray v Ferrero being the two Centre Court matches.

At least Andy's match should be on a lot earlier tomorrow (though the Beeb may not be pleased at that thought). Even if Fed v Ivo goes to 5 sets, I can't imagine there will be many long rallies!

I'm pleased to see that Hewitt is on court 1, as despite arriving at 2pm, several hours earlier than last year, I'm number 652 in the queue as opposed to 300 last year... but... there are a lot of Aussies in front of me, and hopefully there'll be more than 150 who choose to watch what could arguably be the better matches.
