Olly battles to his third three-set win to make his first Grade 2 semi. As a result he will move above all other Brits except our three 1991 births in the top 100. His next opponent looks very strong on paper though.
QF
Oliver Golding (GBR) d. Tomas Hanzlik (CZE) 1-6 7-6 (4) 6-2
A fine win from Olly over the world no.53, becoming only the second Brit to reach a final at this level (or above) this year.
SF
Oliver Golding (GBR) d. (1) Mate Zsiga (HUN) 6-3 6-3
Final
Oliver Golding (GBR) v (3) Tobias Blomgren (SWE)
A win would take him to around 100. If he does crack the top 100 Olly will be only a few days shy of Andy Murray's entry in January 2003 at 15yrs 8mths. I am not aware of any other 15 year-old British boy reaching the top 100 in recent years.
I really hope that Olly can do well - we have seen him play from a young age and I know he was renowned for his behaviour on court but it may well be that this has helped him in his tennis career. He is a beautiful player and, I believe, totally focused on what he does. I hope the LTA are supporting him well as he deserves it.
