First game of the second set and Murray slips to 15-40 - he saves both bps in confident style. Murray turns the next rally round, before firing a nice backhand winner down the line, but a poor drop shot on the next point is easily dealt with by Starace for deuce. Big hitting by Murray gives him another game point and he charges the net on second serve, putting Starace off and sealing the game.
Murray making lots of errors, slips to 15-40, but two forays to the net gets it back to deuce. He's now won 11/14 at the net. But a great drop shot from Starace brings another break point - again Murray makes it to the net to return to deuce. Starace turns up the heat in the next rally, to earn his sixth break point of the set - this time it's a half-volley that digs Murray out of trouble.
No respite, as Starace dominates the next rally, smashing his way to another break point. Murray once again ends up at the net, but Starace defends well, before finding the line with a winner. Murray broken and trails 1-2*.
Muzza's head is down as he slides to 0-30. Will a change of racket help? He's very lucky not to double fault next point, and a bad unforced error on the following point leaves him at 15-40. Starace makes the pass and Murray's thrown this set away. He trails 1-4*.
That second set from Murray was very strange - Starace is probably playing as well as he has this season, but Murray just didn't play that well at all. You could understand if it was a first set and he hadn't woken up yet, but having won that set (which I didn't see), you'd expect him to go on and win the match.
Still don't see him losing this match, but it's not going to be as easy as we had hoped it would be.
4-1 down in the second set now... this is just poor from Murray. He's making far too many errors and his groundstrokes just don't look to have anything on them. Length is too short, no pace in the shot, and the variety that Murray usually plays with is just non-existant.
slightly ironic performance so far considering murrays comments reported in the press today, about the other brits not sustaining their lvl of performance.
