Davydenko plays a truly horrible tiebreak full of bad errors and Murray takes the set 7-6(1)!!!
Doesn't feel like Murray is playing a particularly great match and throughout the set I had the feeling that Davydenko was always going to win it until he just fell apart in the tiebreak.
Murray is playing a pretty decent match, and definately playing better than he has done in this event, but Davydenko's 35 unforced errors are probably the reason that he's losing the match at the moment.
UFEs are a strange beast....how many result in pressure / play from the opponent Daniel ?
I'd say quite a few of them were because of the way Murray is playing, but a sizeable chunk were just Davydenko putting the ball long or into the net when in the middle of the rally, or him just missing the shot he intends to finish the rally with (case in point, he's just worked the point nicely but blasted his forehand down the line miles wide when trying to hit the winner)
He's got the break in this set now though - Murray just didn't start the set well (how often have we said that???)
Murray gives the break back though after putting a dropshot wide - that game saw Davydenko making all of the big shots he tried, while Murray is getting frustrated with his movement at the moment.
And at the 3rd time of asking he does serve the match out to win 7-6(1), 6-4!!!
Massive win for Murray, and it's probably one of his best to beat Davydenko on a clay court, but that said, there's still a lot of work to be done on the clay, especially in his movement which still isn't as good as it needs to be.
He needs to serve better as well - can't afford to have a first serve percentage at around 50% on a clay court when his second serve isn't brilliant.
It was a decent performance by Murray, but the match was pretty much on the racket of Davydenko - when he was making his big shots he was winning the points - but for the majority of the match he was missing, and by the end of the match, his timing had completely gone - with more matches this season under his belt, and maybe having not played a match earlier in the day, Davydenko would probably have made more balls and would have therefore won the match - his ratio of 28 winners to 58 unforced errors was dire compared to how he normally plays.
But still, Murray did just about enough to get the win and made enough balls when he realised that Davydenko was losing it - at 4-1 in the second set when Davydenko was making all his shots Murray was getting frustrated but kept it in check.
No chance against Nadal tomorrow though - Nadal will win in straight sets.
Excellent win for Muzza, should give him a lot more confidence on clay. I'd have backed Kolya to beat him on clay most days at the moment, but I'm not surprised he conked out after having been out for so long and had to go a couple of rounds with Fat Dave this morning.
