More genius work from the LTA!

As you may know my son has been playing in mini red events (8 and under) for the last year and really enjoying it.

There are usually around 40 events around the county and for each one you attend and play at you gain points which go onto a leaderboard (Matthew is currently 6th for the Winter).

LTA just released the summer schedule and have changed the format - now the ones at the top end of the scale (Red1's and 2's) can only play in 10 events while the lesser players have 36 events to choose from.

So rather than playing competitive tennis through the summer he will be lucky to play in 6 events (some are at 8 in the morning on the other side of the county.

Great stuff LTA lets get our top junious playing less!!!..Words fail me.

Confusing decision. Have you contacted the LTA Seagull to get them to explain themselves?

Yes I've exchanged several e-mails with them and to be fair they have always responded quickly.

The main reason given is that they want best players playing at the same events which is fine but I can't understand why they are not allowed to play in the 'lesser' events as well.

Out of the 10 events 9 are in East Sussex and 1 is in West Sussex(guess where I live!)

Feel pretty disalusioned with the LTA already. Have taken the time and trouble to support the events they have put on. Matt is the 3rd highest ranked 6 year-old on the ratings yet have never had any contact or feedback from the coach's running the events or the Head Office and he has never received invite to one of the evaution days they run.

He is so keen and always gives 100% but it seems nothinghas changed since I used to play junior events. If you belong to the wrong club or have not got pots of money you are ignored. Shame.

Sounds like they're trying to emulate the ATP's 'brave new world' and get the top players ready for the day when they have to play in the Masters events and slams and it's hardly worth playing anything else.
