And Rafel Nadal wins the inaugral wind-ball championships.

tennis is played outside, and these conditions happen,so you just have to deal with them.... but nadal can deal better.

Well, Murray was mauled by Nadal who adapted his game to the awful conditions. A pity it was so windy, i understand John's annoyance but had Nadal not played better against the wind it would have been more even. Andy didn't cope. Enough said. Learning curve and all that.

Very disappointing today. Nadal just dealt with the conditions much, much better than Andy.

Still a good tournament when you think we were uncertain whether he would be able to play at all.

On to Miami.

Not the greatest tennis match of all time to say the least, but the simple fact is that Rafa handled the wind much better than Murray did, which was probably expected.

Rafa's game is basically perfect in the wind because of the huge amounts of spin he gets on the ball which means that his shots are less affected by the wind, but the way Murray has had success against Nadal in the past has been attacking with hard and flat shots, which when the wind gets up, are impossible to play.

As soon as the wind got to stage it did, Nadal was never going to lose the match, although Murray's running argument with the umpire didn't help things.

Yeah, the wind basically meant the match wasn't the contest that people were expecting, but is just something that you have to deal with when playing outside (can you imagine the reaction of the 16,000 + crowd if they were told that play was suspended because it was a bit windy? - it wasn't dangerous to anyone but just made it harder for Andy to play the tennis he wanted to play), or otherwise you reduce tennis to just being an indoor sport.

Still, I think at the start of the tournament we'd have taken Andy in the final, and hopefully he can go onto to Miami and do a bit better where the courts should suit him a little bit more, and with a bit more recovery time, could at least repeat his effort here.

Well why not play a game of chequers or flip a coin?

It would be the same for both players and would be about as relevant to who is playing better tennis as this farce of an event.

Don't be so puerile. It's a sport, that at this tournament is played outdoors. On occasions these conditions happen and they are dealt with, or not. Stop making excuses, when this time the better player won the match. If you feel the need to come back on this feel free to have the last word.

Watched Andy play Robredo in windy conditions in Las Vegas a few years ago. It was as one-sided a contest as this match. Andy just hasn't got a clue how to adapt his game to the conditions.

Hope Miami isn't as windy, though of all the tournaments that's the one I would normally associate with similar conditions.

Watched the match hoping that it would be a bit less one-sided. My comment would be that Rafa just got on with it and Andy started to behave like a petulant teenager. Why can't he act a bit more mature-Rafa seems so much older than him. I am not a prude - go to enough football matches not to be - but do wonder why Andy has to consistently resort to foul language when things are not going his way. It is all a bit pathetic.

Yes, Andy did resort back to the unnecessery language and behaviour that he used to show too often. He let it all get to him and then lost the mental battle within. Like anybody once your in that mindset you don't focus properly on the job in hand. Still a good week all round for Murray. Rafa looked so on form thougth that he may take some stopping in Miami.
