RE: Week 15 - Monte Carlo Entry List

Could have been better, but could have worse to be honest.

Hanescu or a qualifier is going to be an interesting opener as it will be against someone who is decent on clay, so will be a nice test of where he is in terms of clay court ability, while Berdych/Cilic aren't the greatest clay courters in the world, but still someone who would probably be favourite against Andy on the surface.

If he got past Nalby/Davy into the semi's I'd be very surprised though.

This is going to be interesting, he has the talent and skills to be good on clay but may take a bit more practice. Not a terrible draw.

The other wildcards went to Ivan Ljubicic and Jean-Rene Lisnard.

No wildcard for past champion Ferrero. . .

The qualifier that Hanescu meets in the first round is the Spaniard, Alberto Martin, so either could be Andy's first match in the second.

was it Martin that Murray thrashed in the aussie open a few years back?

Yeah, but Martin is hopeless off the clay, while on clay he's a decent enough player.

Wouldn't expect him to be able to beat Murray on the red stuff though.

I'm keeping myself free of any expectations for Murray this week. Last year he improved on his clay results and that was great, but since then he's come on in leaps and bounds and once again he's arrived at the beginning of the clay season as a completely unknown package. Players will fancy their chances against him more than on the hard but at the same time no one really knows what his clay game will be like, and what his mental approach to it is. Once we see how far he gets this week I think it'll be easier to predict what the rest of the clay can be expected to produce but as of now I have no idea whether he'll go out round 2 (hopefully not) or in the semis (because lets face it there's no chance he'll go further).
