RE: Indian Wells R2 - Andy v Albert Montanes

Amazingly few spectators for such a big event, especially toward the back!

Murray to serve - 5-3

0-15 - bh dragged wide
15-15 - good fh approach and he puts the bh volley away
30-15 - unreturnable serve
40-15 - Ace
40-30 - Murray frames a fh long
GSM Murray - great point to finish with a lovely get by Murray and a fh winner

Murray wins 7-5, 6-3

Not Murray's best performance by a long way, but he did just about enough to get through in the end, and he got better as the match went on which is good to see.

Just didn't wake up for the majority of the first set until Montanes gifted him the break, and then the set with double faults, while the break in the second set was all Montanes errors as well.

Played a bit passively, but maybe that was because it was his first match and he didn't want to overdo it, or maybe because he was trying to expose Montanes as he is much more comfortable on the defensive than attacking.

Second serve was a bit poor today and against a better player would have been punished more (he won 60% on it today), and some of the footwork/movement was not at it's usual best, but he served well on the first serve and his groundstrokes were reasonably steady - didn't get to the net often as well, but he won which is the main thing.

Hopefully he'll improve as the tournament goes on, as he'll need to if he is to get past Cilic/Robredo in round 4

I got home just in time to watch that service game of Andy's in the second set, where it went to several deuces - phew!

Not looking fully fit, too early in the morning for him, definitely rusty. But job done - well done, Andy. Monday for the next round, I assume.

I hope he doesn't tire himself too much in the doubles.
