Usually i wouldn't bother making a retort to an ill-informed comment but posting a title thread entitled "Murray's demise" is pathetic. I do not have the level of knowledge as many people on this forum but i am sure a lot of people would agree that his Scotland talk was taken out of context and did not in any way reflect any contempt for the English (or Welsh and Northern Irish for that matter). As "Britain" we are in an unusual situation compared with many countries who are solely independant, and i am sure i am English....and British. Of course he thinks of himself as Scottish, he is Scottish so what is the problem?
On a related subject, and problem something for a long night in the pub, but are not boundary (land division) arguements, especially in Britain ridiculous? When you feel such excitement at Murray losing what is it you're feeling abryan? Or as an Englishman/Welshman/Northern Irishman, what is it you feel so passionately about as a patriot of that country? Basically, why are you bothered to make such an effort here?
Murray is out and i am looking forward to the rest of the week. He is inspiring young people all across the isles to play and to try and achieve something which is incredibly challenging; if those people instead took an inward-looking xenophobic stance they would appreciate little of anything outside their own country. Who cares that Murray is Scottish? He could be from the Congo for all i care.
Mr Bryan shouldn't be using the word "demise" instead of "defeat" or "failure", either. It's a euphemism for "death" & when I last checked, Andy was still very much in the land of the living!
The ignorance and stupidity of some people still amazes me.....although the 'member' who thought to provoke a little 'ding-dong' by starting this thread should only be pitied and offered counselling.
