AO R1 - Andy v Pavel

First up on Rod Laver, Tuesday. Yuk - a morning start for Andy. Hopefully even a half-awake Andy can see off Pavel, who hasn't played for nearly a year, without too much trouble.

The upside is that it is on at midnight UK time, on BBC 2.

They have only played each other once, in the US Open in 2005 which Andy won in 5 (the famous match where he chucked up all over the court!)

It will be fascinating to see Pavel's level.

Does anyone remember Andy nearly pulling of the triple bagel in AO R1 two years ago?

It's a pity this is in the morning as if it was a night match I reckon this would be a good chance to try for the triple again.

Yeah I think that match was summed up by the fact the Spanish commentators didn't even bother to turn up - there was an empty booth next to the BBC one!

I don't think it will be quite that bad, something like 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 to Murray I think.

Can't see anything other than an easy straight sets win for Murray, to be honest, even with the early start working against him.

Pavel was a decent player, but age must be against him now, and the fact he's been out for a while doesn't exactly help him.

Don't expect to staying up late into the night to watch Murray, as I can't see it going on for too long

The bookies seem to think the match will take 25-26 games, i.e. something like 3, 2 & 2 or 4, 2 & 2. I think Andy could do better than that if he really wanted to, but can he bothered?

Should be a very straightforward win.

However, all I want to see is Andy looking fairly good, play himself into the tournament and move on without any drama of any kind.

This should be a routine win...he has made all the right noises going into this. 6-3, 6-2, 6-1...

Not seen this anywhere else, Jon Wertheim has picked Murray to win this year.

Murray always used to wear a cap but I haven't seen him in one in a while. Maybe he's sorted his hair out now and doesn't need it?!!

For the benefit of the lazy people who havent woken up(!)

Pavel serving to start the match.

0-15: A deep, but otherwise unthreatening return of serve draws an immediate unforced error.
15-15 Pavel serves, and comes into the net. Murray fails to get to the drop shot.
30-15
40-15 returen of serve is long.wide.
40-30 Murray steps in and hits a drop shot, which he follows up with an easy volely putaway.
DEUCE Pavel's forehand fails to clear the net.
ADv Pavel: Not a great approach shot from the Romanian but he gets away with it and his volley is just in.
GAme. Andy's backhand sails long.
