Boys & Girls: Nottinghill Junior ITF International, Australia - Grade 1

All our contingent for the Australian Open Juniors event are here for the second Grade 1 warm-up. Hopefully this means that Laura Robson has made a full recovery from her stomach muscle injury. Hannah James has drawn the short straw, having been paired with the Traralgon winner (who beat world number 1 Noppawan Lertcheewakarn en route). In the Boys event James Chaudry lost in qualifying, so needs an LL spot to make the main draw.

Girls Singles R1

(3) Laura ROBSON (GBR) v Martina BORECKA (CZE)
Ksenia KIRILLOVA (RUS) v Hannah JAMES (GBR)
(5) Heather WATSON (GBR) v (WC) Olivia RICH (AUS)

Hopefully this means Laura is healthy.

God to see Heather such a high seed. They aren't in the same section are they?

Girls Singles R1

(3) Laura ROBSON (GBR) v Martina BORECKA (CZE) scheduled for Sunday
Ksenia KIRILLOVA (RUS) d. Hannah JAMES (GBR) 6-3 7-5
(5) Heather WATSON (GBR) d. (WC) Olivia RICH (AUS) 2-6 6-3 6-1

R2 (last 32)

(3) Laura ROBSON (GBR) / Martina BORECKA (CZE) v (WC) Sophie LETCHER (AUS)
(5) Heather WATSON (GBR) v Kyra SHROFF (IND)

A competitive scoreline from Hannah against the Traralgon champion. Heather's second round match is a re-run of the Commonwealth Youth Games final, which Heather won comprehensively. Laura resumes her successful doubles partnership with Anna Orlik, whilst Heather plays with fast rising Canadian 14 year old Eugenie Bouchard.

Well Done Heather

Hannah :(

Good luck Laura. Having seen her draw a semi is the minimum i'd expect if she's fully fit.

How far do they need to go (respectively) to score any points from this tournament?

Both need to win one more match to reach the QF for the tournament to count in their best 6

I think Heather gains 15 points by doing that.

How many does Laura get and extra 30?

Yes, Heather would gain 15 and Laura effectively 30 (she will lose her 60 points from the 2008 Czech Junior though, so her points total will remain the same. A QF here means she avoids a drop of 30 points.)

R3 (Last 16)

(3) Laura ROBSON (GBR) d. (15) Sandra ZANIEWSKA (POL) 6-4 7-5
(5) Heather WATSON (GBR) v (12) Miyabi INOUE (JPN) 6-1 6-3

QF

(3) Laura ROBSON (GBR) Vs Richel HOGENKAMP (NED)
(5) Heather WATSON (GBR) Vs (2) Elena BOGDAN (ROU)

A win for both would see Laura to move up to 2 in the rankings

Doubles QF

(3) ORLIK (BLR) / ROBSON (GBR) defeated (6) DIYAS (KAZ) / MARENKO (RUS) 6-0 6-3

SF

(3) ORLIK (BLR) / ROBSON (GBR) v HOGENKAMP (NED) / LEMOINE (NED)
