That's some analysis! You've just ensured that I'll be following the results avidly smile.gif

Unfortunately, there was one fatal flaw. I didn't bother to check that the ITF had their contenders correct in the news article about the Orange Bowl on their website. There is no way Arantxa Rus can be #1, as Noppawan Lertcheewakarn has no points to defend, so her 1082.5 is the real target to beat.

New (simpler, but tougher) rules:

1. If Laura reaches the singles final, she is #1, unless Ana Bogdan wins singles and reaches the semi finals in doubles and does one round better than Laura in doubles.

2. If Laura goes out in the singles semi, she is #1 if she wins doubles and Ana doesn't win singles.

3. If neither of the above apply and Ana Bodgan wins singles, Ana is #1. Otherwise, Noppawan remains #1.

One possible tie remains - Ana WR singles / SF doubles and Laura RU singles / QF doubles.

Oh dear. That's an easy assumption to make though, ITF is usually a more relieable source than most. Probably good that it's simpler though, while there are still enough possibilities to keep it interesting!

As I feared Laura is the only one left in the singles:

Asia Muhammad (USA) d. (8) Heather Watson GBR 6-4 6-3
(6) Beatrice Gumulya (INA) d. Hannah James GBR 6-4 7-5

U18 R32

Courtney Dolehide USA v (2) Laura Robson GBR

Beatrice Capra is the only other seed left in Laura's quarter

U18 R32

(2) Laura Robson GBR d. Courtney Dolehide USA 6-2 6-1

Another comfortable win for Laura, as expected, but worryingly her doubles partner Hanna Orlik retired, and Laura may require doubles points in the race for the number 1 spot.

Bogdan won 7-5, 6-1 (against a 13 year old it has to be said).

Laura will play the American 14th seed Beatrice Capra in the L16.

Apparantly Laura lost 1-1 ret.

Someone (supposedly in the know) said she was injured after her first match and shouldn't have really carried on further than that. Some sort of abdominal injury by the sounds.

Hope she's alright.

cry So that means I think one more win from Bogdan will see Laura drop to no.6 in the rankings which means she misses out on a JE into two 50k events next year.

The year-end number 6-10 ranked girls singles players according to the year-end ITF Junior Ranking will be offered direct entry into the Main Draw at three (3) ITF Womens Circuit events up to and including $25,000 prize-money level.

Sad end to a great year for Laura (she and Orlik have given a w/o as expected in the doubles - which clears the path for Heather/Steph, who they would have met in the quarters). The likely drop to 6 is frustrating, as the Junior Exempts into higher valued challengers would have been very useful. Let's hope the injury heals quickly.

One other consequence is that the number 1 spot will be held by someone who has not won a grand slam - surprising, given that grand slam winners gain 500 points and runners-up only 180

Bogdan is indeed through to the QFs of both the singles and doubles, so it will be no.6 for Laura.

Hope Heather and Steph can go far in the doubles.

Heather and Steph must have lost as they are not on tomorrow's oop. However better news is that Ana Bogdan was double-bagelled by Sloane Stephens in the quarters. Hence Laura can still finish at 5 in the world if Ana does not win the doubles (the top seeds are through to the semis though).
