RE: Masters Cup 2008 - RR - Andy Murray v Roger Federer

I dont understand all this talk of a bonus for being undefeated? Don't you just win the total amount that you can possibly win for being undefeated.

Participation Fee - $100,000
Round Robin Win 3 * $100,000
Semifinal Match Winner - $315,000
Final Winner - $625,000

Is a total of $1,340,000

Which is the same total as the undefeated Champion.

Not sure about the money but that is definitely the case with the points. A maximum of 750 if you win undefeated - 300RR, 200SF and 250winner - and obviously if you lose one of your RR matches it is 100 less.

Andy after the game...

"I'm going to be a bit tired tomorrow but a win over Roger Federer means almost as much as winning the Masters Cup to me - to win against him and have a record like I do is awesome. I know I'm going to be tired but this means a lot to me."

I'm not going to argue with that.

Great effort by Andy against a Fed that wanted so much to win that match.

What a position to be in though, hey mate you're working your socks off to beat me here, I don't actually have to win this, but hell I'm going to anyway !

Probably having the pressure of not actually having to win also helps you relax so you can more easily win match points, err   wink.gif

What ever happens over the next two days Andy has had fantastic second half of the season and has ended the debate over whether or not he is good enough to compete at the very higest level. He is clearly a major contender to win a Grand Slam next year.

I always knew he was capable of being this good but if you'd told me at the start of the year that by the end of this year, he was already going to be good enough and consistent enough to beat Fed in a match that mattered hugely to Fed and wouldn't have mattered much at all to most players in Muzza's position, well ... ! smile.gif

That it really did matter so much to Fed was clear at the end.

The briefest of handshakes at the net, and he was out of there.
