Masters Cup 2008 - RR - Andy Murray v Gilles Simon

Wednesday, at 6pm local time - 10.00am GMT.

Andy says the match will be a tough one - he beat Simon in the Madrid Masters final, but Gilles was very tired from a lot of tough matches then. However, Andy does lead the H2H 2-1, with both wins coming this year - both in Masters Series, Madrid and Hamburg.

Andy hopefully will know by now that a straight sets win will get him a SF spot !

Go Andy 7-5 6-4 imo !

The music's playing, the lights are flashing and Britain's Andy Murray is on court. He's just learning about the Hawk-Eye system....

A break in the first game for Andy! Some extremely long rallies, with both players about even, but Murray able to take the cheap points with some monster returns on second serves.

Murray saves two break points in another high-quality game. Simon's backhand is looking particularly powerful. 2-0*

Simon's started dumping forehand put-aways into the net and Murray breaks again for *3-0. Nice.

looks like amdy has simon serve down, but must keep his own level up.

According to the BBC, if Andy wins in straight sets he is definately through. Is this true?

I don't see why he should definitely be through - if Simon beats Stepanek in straights and Federer beats Murray in straights, Simon and Murray would be level on matches and sets (with Fed equal or better, assuming he beats Rad) - and Murray could end up with the worst games difference. This double-break's good in that respect, though.

Murray has another chance to break but Simon holds. *4-1 to our man Murray.

Murray nets an easy smash at 40-30 and pays for it by surrendering a break. This could still be dangerous. 4-2*

Third consecutive game for Simon to bring it back to *4-3. Andy's got a fair bit to worry about here: cue some big serves, please.

I've been really impressed with Simon the last few weeks. From his passive final in Madrid he seems to have developed a lot more power in his groundstrokes.

Two big serves, the latter followed by a good volley, bring it back to 30-30.
