China Open G3 ITF Week 2 (Boys)

David Thomson & Alistair Barnes are DA here.
Mathew Thomson has moved in to the main draw from qualifying along with Jordan McCulloch, Ben Davis is the 2nd seed in qualies & all these guys will be looking to continue where they left off in Beijing & try to pick up more ranking points in their quest for DA for the Aussie Open in January.

Ben Davis eases through the second round of qualies (his first match) to each the final round with a 6-1 6-2 win against Liang of China, very comfortable in tough conditions, it was very hot & humid but with huge winds which made the win all the more impressive & enabled Ben to conserve energy for tomorrow & the main draw!!!

Ben Davis qualifies with a 7-5 2-6 6-0 win, lasting over 2.5 hours against Ramshadev from India.
Not the prettiest of matches but Ben toughed it out & earned his place in tonights draw.

Some comeback by Ben. Was he holding the wrong end of the racquet and only spotted it after five games? It seems one hell of a tunraround to win 12 of the next 14 games against someone who has won five straight.

Ben's luck ran out today as he ran in to Nikala Scholtz (RSA) Scholtz is the 2nd seed here & he beat David Thomson last week in Beijing serving 24 aces in a 7-6 6-3 win, Ben played very well but the Scholtz serve was too much in the end as Ben went down fighting 5-7 6-4 7-6 (4) in a 3hr 40min epic.

Alistair Barnes came through a tough first set 11-9 in the breaker & eased through the second 6-2 to set up a match with his doubles partner, Scholtz! I can't see there being too many rallies although I think that will be Barnes' best way of winning.

Dave Thomson came through a match lasting well over 3.5 hrs & cramp to beat 8th seed Pavel Liska (CZE)Liska tried every trick in the book when Dave was a set & a break up, using old school delaying tactics whilst Dave was serving mid-motion Dave lost the second (& his temper) but got an early break in the third & held his nerve for a 6-4 4-6 6-4 win & he will next take on Ang Li from China, a winnable match if Dave can recover enough from yesterdays hard grind.

In the doubles the Brits lost Ben & Jordan McCulloch lost 6-0 7-5 & Barnes & Scholtz lost in 3.
