This match will surely be the first match on Saturday, unless it is a Muller v Djokovic semi, as I am sure the crowd would rather see Djokovic v Federer or Roddick (being American) v Federer/Muller. I'm not sure how it works on Saturday at the US Open though, like when do they put the womens final on, and do they have a night session?
This is where Andy's team, particulary Miles Maclagan, need to prove their worth. The tactics are going to have to be spot on, to win Andy will have to hit through Nadal to win, play defensive against him and you WILL lose. He is going to have to careful about over-attacking though, for instance getting to the net to much as Nadal loves a target so his approach shot and first volley will have to be spot on.
makes sense as 1 man could potentialy be at quite a disadvatage if it runs really late. plus isnt the night match ment to be the spectacle? ok i know often the ladies finals are not as good as the mens semis (mens 1st rd even ) but that should be the main attraction as it is a GS final

In the previous meetings between these two on hardcourt, Andy has got both his strategy and his tactics about right, being competitive in the match, but has simply been unable to execute, playing the key points especially poorly.
On hardcourt:
2008 Murray 54% won 66%/57% saved 0/2 bps - Nadal 70% won 62/68 saved 2/3 bps 2007 Murray 52% won 62%/47% saved 10/14 - Nadal 68% won 60/48 saved 9/12 bps 2007 Murray 52% won 73%/43% saved 9/16 bps - Nadal 72% won 69/54 saved 14/17 bps
So in these three meeting both players have had a total of 32 bps but Andy has just 7 breaks compared to 13 for Rafa.
The other thing worthy of note is that the likes of James Blake, Youzhny and Novak, as well as saving bps on their own serve, have done a much better job of punishing Rafa's second serve.
I suspect that Andy would prefer the match to be backhand crosscourt into Rafa's forehand while Nadal will be looking to play his backhand into Murray's forehand, tempting Andy to go down the line into the open space. During their last encounter he missed this shot time after time.
Friday Night...Rain likely with a chance of thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times. Lows in the upper 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of rain 70 percent. Saturday...Rain likely with a chance of thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times. Humid with highs in the mid 70s. East winds 15 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 40 mph late. Chance of rain 70 percent. Saturday Night...Rain likely with a chance of thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times. Windy with lows in the mid 60s. Chance of rain 70 percent.
I'm trying to remember if the AA has a roof or not - if it does, then that would definately help Andy as it would mean the court would be quicker, and he needs the faster surface he can get

Can sometimes be misleading looking at the total break points played, as someone who misses break points will play a higher number of break points on the opponent's serve, other things being equal (i.e. converting at 0-40 means you only play one break point while failing to convert will see you play more).
If you look at the points won on serve (by looking at the 1st serve % and the success rate for 1st and 2nd serve) you can see that Rafa was a fair bit better than Andy in these matches.
wait...? hes playing on sat. arent semis usualy on fri?
IIRC they used to play one semi on the Friday night and the other one on Saturday afternoon. They then realised that this was a little unfair so now play both semis on Saturday.
