Shocked that Watson isn't here. confused.gif

Also why aren't Cornish or Vicky playing qualies? So did they go to the US for just one week? Or are they looking at colleges or something like that?

Coxy gets a joke draw overall, with Arevalo being one of the most overranked players in modern times. Nice draw for Willis as well, although Smethurst is not that lucky.

There will be a Livestream. w00t.gif

I know that Vicky is going to college - Yale I believe - and Steph is probably looking too. Random answer to the question above..

Thanks for that. smile.gif

Smethy beat Biryukov by 75 64. clap.gif

Basic beat Pauffley by 0 and 0. cry.gif

Willis beat Schulz by 2 and 2. clap.gif

Arevalo beat Cox by 4 and 4. clap.gif

Good to see Arevalo step up and ensure that Coxy remains fresher for tournaments that make sense. I was worried that he would make the final here.

Arevalo for Overseas Sports Personality Of The Year!

Quarter finals:

Daniel Smethurst [43] vs. Pablo Carreno-Busta [34] of Spain
Marcus Willis [25] vs. Takanyi Garanganga [79] of Zimbabwe

Carreno-Busta (sounds like the name of a rapper) plays Juniors regularly, which is unique for a Spaniard. He has picked up a Grade 1 title on clay this year, but doesn't have much experience on hard. Smethurst should win this.

Garanganga is badly overranked. Willis should beat him.

Strange result from Pauffley. Maybe he tanked so he can play US Open qualies? I noticed he hasn't played doubles here so that must be on his mind?

Possible, but you can get SEs through doubles, too, I think.

*Checks rulebook*

"Players who cannot appear in the qualifying of a tournament because they are
competing on the day that the qualifying competition begins in another qualified
tournament who apply for and receive exemption from qualifying as hereinafter
provided. A qualified tournament is the singles and/or doubles event of another ITF
Junior Circuit tournament, an ITF Womens Circuit / WTA Tour tournament or an ITF
Mens Circuit / ATP Challenger / Tour tournament within the same continent."

Although there's a likelyhood that many players skipped this (Watling, Heather etc.) or tanked as you can miss this because you lost on the day of qualies draw and the travel took too long. Montreal and New York are a good 330 miles apart!

im still not sure its right t clap when your favourite player loses, no matter what your opinion on his scheduling, but this is an old argument that theres no point in starting again.

Well done Marcus! A big push for the top 10 and the junior exempt places would be great!

But it's in the best interests of Coxy's career that he loses as fast as possible in any Junior event he plays. That way he can be fresher for tournaments he should be playing.

Don't think it's just an opinion any more, isn't it? That was last year this time - now it's a fact that has been proven countless times.

Smethurst lost by 67(5) 64 62.

Ilyushin beat Arevalo in straights, so it's him that Willis faces. His resume is not even remotely close to Marcus's, so it's a match he should win.

There is a chance that this will be broadcast Live as it's the final singles match of the day. Although they show doubles at times, too. We'll get to know when it's daytime in Canuckland.

This is one of Andy Murray's former titles, by the way. smile.gif He won it in 2003.
