Cincinnati Masters - R2: Andy vs Sam Querrey

Querrey has just disposed of PHM by 6-4 4-6 6-3 to proceed to a R2 encounter with Andy.  The head-to-head is 1-0, with Andy seeing off Sam 5 & 2 in the last 16 in Newport two years ago.  Given the improvement in Andy's game lately, I expect him to repeat the feat tomorrow (?)...

My favourite thing about this is that I had Querrey in the pick'em!

Andy in 2

Murray shouldn't lose this match, and it would be a disaster if he did, because Querrey has a very good serve, but the rest of his game isn't really that good. (against Mathieu he looked as all serve as Karlovic is, and only won because Mathieu choked horribly)

If Murray gets enough returns in he'll beat him, and there's a logic to him playing reasonably passively here if he wants to, as Querrey won't be able to hang on to Murray in the rallies

No sign of the match in today's OoP, so presumably tomorrow.

Andy has always impressed me handling big servers, he should advance.

Wednesday starts are nice but I get bored waiting for all the other Brits to get knocked out of tournaments before Andy starts.

Hopefully this week, give the sheer volume of Brits in Ilkley, we will see Brits involved through to Sat/Sun

The OOP is out - Andy is second match on Centre, with the first one starting at 11am (4pm here). I hope the first one is a good long match so Andy has time to wake up!

I hope he can cope with the heat at that time of the day, too.

Give it 30 minutes at most and this match will be on... Simon is really struggling against Blake, who's a set and a break up.

Here we go....

Querrey to serve - 0-0

15-0 - Ace.... challenged on the first point by Querrey and it was in
15-15 - beautiful dropshot from Murray and he finishes it off with a volley
30-15 - long rally ends with Murray slicing a backhand into the net
30-30 - massive bh dtl from Murray is a winner
40-30 - fh from Murray is just long, but he should have made it as it was a winner
Deuce - bh return hits the line and Querrey spoons a fh long
Adv Q - s/v from Querrey but Querrey puts the 2nd volley away
Game Q - S/v again, and he puts a fh volley away, although with a terrible technique

Querrey leads 1-0

Querrey to serve - 2-0

0-15 - Murray's lob hits the line, and Q puts the smash wide
15-15 - Ace.... Murray challenge was wrong

Querrey's started well, but Murray doesn't look to have woken up properly yet

Andy 'I don't do mornings (or even early afternoons)' Murray seems to be up to his old tricks again.
