RE: Toronto 2008 R3 - Murray v Wawrinka

Seems that first service though has been part of the problem from stats.

Approximately the same first and second service % points won, but Stan well ahead on percentage 1st serves in, and outacing Andy by 5-0.

Murray to serve *1-2

15-0 lovely volley winner after great set up to the point
30-0 W puts a bh long
30-15 W hits bh dtl winner in the rally
40-15 W fh error as Murray comes into net
Game Murray - big serve followed by huge forehand winner

2-2

A lot better from Murray there... needs to just keep this form going

Wawrinka to serve *2-2

15-0 - Murray attacks 2nd serve but makes an error
30-0 - Murray moonballs the return but puts it long, and he isn't happy with missing it at all
30-15 - Bh return winner from Murray off a very short second serve
40-15 - lovely serve/volley from Wawrinka finished with a beautiful drop volley
40-30 - Wawrinka bh is just wide, but looks like it could have been in, but umpire couldn't overule - would have been a winner
Deuce - W FH error after long rally where Murray was on the defensive... c'mon Andy!
Adv W - fh return into bottom of net as he tried to hit a winner
Deuce - stunning bh pass from Murray, but was never in the point and a better volley from W should have won the point
Adv W - Murray fh error into the net in the rally... Murray was being very passive during the point
Game Wawrinka - bh return goes long

Wawrinka leads 3-2

Better game from Murray as he wasn't totally outclassed in the rallies, but he's playing far too passive and the match is on Wawrinka's racket... if he plays well, then he'll win, if not, Murray will win

Murray to serve - *2-3

15-0 - W puts a 2nd serve return long, although a decent 2nd serve which kicked up
30-0 - good point from Murray almost ruined by a shocking volley, but Wawrinka puts forehand pass way wide
30-15 - good return forces fh error into the net... 3 second serves so far in this game
30-30 - DF...
40-30 - W puts a bh long as he tries to attack a Murray moonball
Game Murray - W goes for a fh dtl and nets it, after Murray is very passive in the rally

3-3

No 1st serves from Murray that game...

Wawrinka to serve - *3-3

15-0 - massive fh error fom Murray, almost hitting the back fence while rallying (although W 2nd serve looked long)
15-15 - W misses fh when he tries to attack - Murray junkballed everything in that point
15-30 - W drags a bh into the net off a short slice from Murray
15-40 - W puts a fh wide during the rally
Game Murray - massive bh error from Wawrinka after a long rally (Murray had a 2nd serve, and the return hit the T)

Murray leads 4-3

Murray is playing very passively and junkballing everything... but it's working, as Wawrinka cannot keep the ball in the court, and can't resist going for winners which he simply isn't making.

Murray isn't playing great, but Wawrinka is just horrible at the moment

Murray to serve - *4-3

15-0 - see previous comments... W misses a bh off a very short junkball
30-0 - W almost hits the scoreboard with a bh, it was that far out off a moonball from Murray
40-0 - W nets a bh return after Murray gets a 1st serve in... first in 10 tries
40-15 - Murray hits what looked a bh winner, but very late is called out, which it was
Game Murray - more aggressive point as he forces a fh error on the run from W

Murray leads 5-3

(Tursunov takes the set 6-4 against Blake on centre court)

Wawrinka to serve - *3-5

0-15 - good point from Murray, ends with an average volley but W can't control fh passing shot
15-15 - M goes for a bh winner, but just misses
30-15 - good serve down the T, and Murray can only net the return
40-15 - M puts a forehand into the crowd as he tries to attack
Game Wawrinka - good approach dtl the line and then a lovely crosscourt bh drop volley is a clean winner

Murray leada 5-4

Murray to serve for the match then... I think he'll hold, but it's not been one of his better performances (while Wawa is playing like a top 1000 player, not a top 10 player)

Murray to serve *5-4

(a missing child is found... gets a bigger cheer than anything seen in the match)

15-0 - good wide serve and W can only net return
30-0 - Ace out wide
40-0 - good serve, and a good forehand winner
GSM Murray - bh return into the net

Murray wins 6-2, 0-6, 6-4!!!

Thanks for the point by point FD - was a good way to catch up before I tuned in for the third set.
