It's okay, you can't be expected to beat higher ranked players every week.

Or in this case, lower ranked.

Anne will want to get this loss out of her system as quickly as possible because it rather fits the pattern of Anne underperforming against top 100 players. Last week she looked a very good player once she got going but I dare say this was a horror show. She had a point to win each of the last four games yet lost them all.

3-6 2-6. Very, very dissapointing. This commentator guy is an idiot too.

Don't talk about our friend Ken Thomas like that! evileye (ok, he is, but a well-meaning idiot wink)

I can't believe I forgot he was commentating on this event after getting an email from him yesterday cry it would have been fun to follow it live. (or maybe not, given the dire scoreline after such a nice draw!)

Ken Thomas = tennis legend. worship.gif

Seriously, how many people take the initiative to provide free commentary at tournaments below Tour level? It's a shame that there aren't more like him in this world.

Can't deny that he speaks rubbish too often, though! rofl.gif But normally it's all a good laugh.

Here's hoping Mel can so better than against Hrdinova... I realise she won't get the ranking points of R2 if she loses to Kvitova, but will she get the prize money?

Excellent - doesn't matter about the detail. She's into a tourney and I hope she makes the most of the chance here.

Go Mel!!!

Wow, that's a bit of luck. If I am reading WTA rule XI.D.2.g. correctly, she wouldn't get R2 loser ranking points if she loses in R2 but she would get R2 loser prize money of US$ 3370.

She'll also be GB no. 2 (just) I think if she happens to win the match.

Kvitova is 18 and WR 66 but she lost to Elena in three sets in April and to Katie (bagel in the 3rd) last year, so she's not unbeatable.

I don't expect Mel to win, but she could hardly ask for a better draw in R2 (L32) of a Tier II event ... though no doubt Kvitova is thinking the same with bells on! wink

Still depends on other results.

Currently (I think):

Elena 239
Katie 230
Melanie 212

Possible:

Elena 247 (Lexington QF)
Katie 245 (Portoroz QF)
Melanie 242 (Los Angeles R16)

Great stroke of luck for Mel, and even though she's not likely to win, it's a great chance for her to win a round in a Tier II event.
