Ferrer loses in 5 sets leaving him and Andy level on ranking points as things stand.

Very impressed Nikishori won- went to bed last night/this morning when Ferrer had just won the 3rd set and the commentators were saying Nik wouldnt last 5 sets and have just seen he won. He is only 18 - what an achievement.

I watch bits of that match. Nishikori ran out of gas for two sets and was really struggling at the start of the fifth so I stopped watching, only to check the scoreboard later to find that he was 5-2 ahead. He got match point when he served for it at 5-3 but his drive volley went straight back to Ferrer who fired a pass down the line. He then got another match point with Ferrer serving at 5-6 but a big serve saved that one and finally he fired a forehand down the line to win. Really a player like Ferrer should have stamped all over him deep in the fifth but the nerves seemed to get to Ferrer as much as they did to Nishikori.

Exciting player to watch. I hope he can take a few sets off JMDP; at least keep him on court for a while. I suspect the physical element will determine the winner of that match but it's hard to say which player is in the better state right now. JMDP looked in deep trouble early in the third set and his body may have trouble recovering from his match.

What are the odds on the JMDP vs. Kei match ending in a retirement? ashamed.gif

Hopefully that won't be the case. Would love to see this match!

^^^

Given their relative records as the players who seem to retire the most, it could happen, especially after playing long 5-setters.

No surprise that Nalbandian and Blake lost as Fish has been playing some great tennis this week, and Monfils will be top 10 next year if he stays fit, as his defence is just so good, combined with the massive serve (but if he discovers that you can play from the baseline rather than 10 feet behind it, and hits his groundstrokes rather than pushing them, he can go a lot higher)

People, this isn't really the thread for these discussions: please go to the USO thread in General Tennis Discussion to discuss the draw apart from Andy. It's confusing having two threads running at the same time, discussing the same things.

Indeed...I have been updating the correct thread with what has been going on this afternoon/early evening state side.

I abase myself before the moderator's and beg their forgiveness for my appauling faux pas, which was caused solely by ignorance of where such discussion is appropriate. I beg for mercy and promise to behave better in the future.
