Given the scheduling of the US Open with the semis on Sat, final on Sunday, if Andy has to face Nadal then he's better doing it before the final. Overall a decent draw, a few potentially tricky matches but hopefully he can reach the semis with enough left in the tank to attack Nadal.
I think he could win it (if he plays well at the key moments).
Not too bad, though Gabashvili/Llodra in the second round could be a banana-skin. I also would have preferred Wawrinka to be a bit further away.
Edit - oops, I was thinking of Tipsarevic not Gabashvili. For some strange reason I always get the two of them mixed up Llodra could still be a bit tricky though.
Murray should be looking to dish out some bakery products in the first round, as Roitman is about as good as you can get for a first round draw.
Llodra in round 2, as Lalo in round 3 will be very different matches though, but barring them serving out of their minds/Murray having a poor day, he should beat them.
And with Ferrer in his Quarter, a great chance for a first GS semi final.
And there are some cracking first round draws, such as Roddick/Santoro, Gasquet/Haas, Wawrinka/Bolelli, Robredo/Zverev (3rd time they've played in a GS round 1), Almagro/Dancevic, and Chardy/Gil (for the 3rd slam in a row they play in round 1!!!)
Pity the Brit lads couldn't make it into the final qualifying. A Lucky Loser will now get in the draw, as Koubek has withdrawn too late for an alternate to get in.
I am going to New York next Saturday for 10 days, and have tickets for the final Saturday and Sunday on Arthur Ashe ( men's semis and both men's and women's final ).
So, Andy, I expect to see you there for at least the semis on the Saturday !!
At very least, if he makes second week, I'll certainly try and get to see him earlier in that week, plus catch some other matches.
Here's a live stream if anyone is looking for one... it's from ESPN, so I guess they'll focus on the American matches (although at the moment they are showing Monaco/Nishikori, mixed with a bit of Monfils/Cuevas)
And surprisingly the commentary team is actually pretty good, well, compared to Sam Smith and Chris Bradman who we had to listen to for the Olympics, but seem to actually know what they are talking about
A Bit off topic but I see Rui Machado the Portugese serial futures winner got through qualies and is currently up a set v De Voest. Hope he wins.
Yes, he has won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1, which will take him to a career high ranking inside the top 200.
I see what you mean about serial futures winner !!
I was looking at him on ATP site, and saw he was 24 yo, and had risen from 700's to 200 ranking this year, so I was kind of thinking a really late developer.
But then I saw that he had been ranked in 200's at end of 2005, beginning of 2006, and then his ranking had steadily plummeted until he was unranked for a few weeks in 2007.
One match at a time, Briteny, one match at a time! We have been in this situation before with Andy - the A0 draw looked good for him, apart from the little matter of Tsonga in the first round. . .
And of course it is possible that Rafa may not make the semis anyway.
