This tournament features few of the best 1994 born girls out there - Mestach, Jez Ren, Bouchard and Kovalets. Sadly Bouchard and Kovalets faced off in qualies and Kovalets won in 3.
Jessica won 36 62 62. First set scare, but then she remembered that losing this one would be a huge opportunity wasted.
Heather demolished her opponent by 2 and 0.
Jessica plays Martina Trevisan of Italy, who is November 1993 born but already ranked 88. I guess Jessica will have played her sometime in singles or doubles on the 14s circuit? Will be very tough, though, and she needs to step up a lot.
Heather gets Anastasia Mukhametova of Russia, 1992 born and ranked 108. Seems to be a good clay player as she beat Rus this year, plus reached the quarters of Santa Croce (losing to Konta). Tough, but very winnable if Heather plays like she did today.
Heather now plays Sandra Roma [36], who is the younger sister of the serial Brit killer, Nadja Roma. Nadja beat almost everyone in our top 1000 (including Anne and Mel) in 2006.
Anyway, Sandra Roma returned from an injury this May and she found form instantly, with an 18-4 record since then, including the Grade 1 title in Germany last week. Heather will need to play like against Hogenkamp to have a chance.
Whatever the result, she has done brilliantly this week. This is one of the strongest Grade 1s out there that's not a warm up to a Slam, and if she can make semis here then she has a great chance of doing well at 10Ks/25Ks, if she does them later this year.
Thats a good score agauinst a player thats been ripping this draw apart and last week. Shes up to around 85 now I think. Good to see another brit top 100 in juniors.
She got the doubles title. What a week it has been!
Her ranking will go up to roughly 83 from 150. May not get her a top 8 seeding at USO qualies, but there's a Grade 3 two weeks before USO that she could do.
