RE: Week 33 - ITF - Olympics

Dancevic/Niemeyer? Thought it was Nestor/Niemeyer?

It is.... not quite sure why I wrote Dancevic instead of Nestor... maybe it's wishful thinking as it's the best chance of winning the match!

ITF website says that Murray is due to play his singles match tomorrow, but they don't have an updated order of play, and the official one on the website hasn't been updated.

4 potential spots for Murray if he is to be on a show court tomorrow in the singles... 1030 or 1900 on Centre, or 1430 or 1700 on court 1.

As he's on at 2100 in the doubles, he won't be last up on centre, or possibly even at 1700 on court 1... I presume they'll want Nadal on centre court, so he has to have the 1030 spot as he can't play in the evening as it clashes with the doubles, so Murray to be court 1 at 1430 (0730am UK time) is my guess...

Of course, this is probably wrong, but if they'd publish an OOP it would be a lot more helpful

And we finally have a schedule on the ITF website (although not yet on the Olympic website)

Murray vs. Lu is on court 1 at 1700, so 10am UK time, and the doubles is 3rd on court 2, so roughly about 2100 (2pm UK time).

Both matches are on a televised court, and both at a time that tennis is being streamed, so it will be on the BBC website (and maybe on BBC1 as well, although given what else is on at the time, I'd say we won't get the full Murray match, but might get the whole of the doubles)

Murray should be on soon...

Result of the day so far.... Arevalo def. Lee 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Stunning win for the man from El Savador... but he's got Federer next which could be a big one sided

from Sky Sports:

Andy Murray's dream of singles gold at the Beijing Olympics is over after he suffered a shock defeat to Taiwan's Lu Yen-Hsun.

Murray, the sixth seed, went down 7-6 6-4 to the world number 77 in the first round despite having led 5-2 in the opening set.

The Scot, who won his first Masters Series title in Cincinnati earlier this month, looked out of sorts throughout his opening match of the Games.

A double fault on set point, confirmed by the umpire after the hawk-eye system malfunctioned, handed Lu the opener.

Murray then failed to take advantage of three break points at 4-4 in the second set.

Lu crucially held serve for a 5-4 lead and then broke Murray in the next game to book his place in the second round.

Murray is scheduled to play alongside brother Jamie in the doubles tournament later on Monday.

Thankfully it's Niemeyer to serve ... and the brothers (who apparently aren't really talking to each other!) have won 4-6 6-3 6-4 smile.gif
