RE: Week 33 - ITF - Olympics

Apparantly Karlovic is out as well, so Zeng's doubles partner Zu will make the draw as well!

And with Ljubicic, Hewitt, Monaco, Nalbandian amonst others still not fully fit, a great chance for Devon Mullings (the next alternate) to make the main draw, and then the ITF runs out of ranked players to give them next spot to, so I'm guessing a random draw of all the unranked doubles players who could play will then be done.

Doesn't that mean Zu plays Fed?

There are going to be some huge thrashings in R1!

It'll be funny if Jamie gets in and wins a match somehow.

Nah, Zu faces Berdych in round 1.... Berdych now becomes the 16th seed (or if they don't bother re-jigging the seedings, they still face each other as Berdych was supposed to play Karlovic in round 1!)

Ah, ok, when people on AM.com were saying Fed was playing Ivo, I thoiught they meant in R1.

It would never have happened anyway.... Ivo would have lost in round 1 like he does in every big event!

Now it would be nice if Hyung-Taik Lee's injury problems continued, or Kevin Anderson didn't fancy playing, as I'd fancy Jamie Murray's chances against their opponents.... (or any of the Chinese players actually, but they'll be highly motivated so should be avoided)

i presumme that becasue it is being run by the ITF not the ATP that there wil not be ranking points for this event. But i do remember there being something in the press about there maybe being points on offer for the event.

So can someone comfirm weather or not there will be points on offer or is it just the medals

There are ranking points on offer for the event... I think the winner gets 400 points, but can't remember the others.

Yes, as FD says, there are ranking points, it counts as an optional event with 400 poits to the winner.

The points from winner through to 1st round ( last 64 ) loser are, according to stevegtennis.com :

Olympics                      400  280  155** 100  50   25    5

** 50 additional points awarded for Bronze medalist

Reports of it everywhere but I am waiting to amend the list when the ITF do so themselves - at the moment they still have him in.

Just watching the teams parade I thought it ironic that Swiss flag bearer Roger Federer entered to the swirl of the bagpipes! Makes up for not being allowed to wave a Scottish flag.
(Roger is not living in the Olympic village due to persistent harassment for photos.)

Another tennis player flag bearer was Chilean Fernando Gonzalez.

Earlier Jamie and Andy marched together with the British team.

But what a fantastic opening ceremony, the organisers for London 2012 must be scratching their heads and wondering how they can get close to that spectacle.

By the way the Chinese team is 639 strong!

edit
Just saw Andy waving a small Union Jack smile

.... which leaves no ranked players left to be added to the main draw if anyone else withdraws....guess a random draw will be done now to decide which of the doubles players would get in next if anyone else withdraws

Does that also mean that Andy can expect to face Calleri in R2
